Five Aerosmith Song Remakes You May Not Know

These Bands Have Got Aerosmith Covered!

With Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler at the judges table on "American Idol," his band's music is experiencing somewhat of resurgence. Not that the Toxic Twins and Co. ever went anywhere, but Tyler's "Idol" gig has boosted Aerosmith record sales-- by a lot.

And while you may think you've heard it all when it comes to Aerosmith, what you may not have heard are some of the unlikely cover versions of Aerosmith songs that are floating around out there.

We're not talking Run DMC's version of "Walk This Way," a song that Aerosmith actually collaborated on and that received heavy rotation on MTV back in the day. We're talking the more obscure and sometimes unlikely Aerosmith covers.

Check out these five Aerosmith song covers that you may not know:

"Dream On"- Ronnie James Dio. Who else but the heavy metal king of bands like Black Sabbath, Rainbow and Dio to actually do justice to one of Aerosmith's most classic songs? Others have tried: Cover queen, Tori Amos, did a piano version and Eminem even sampled the song on "Sing for the Moment," but Dio's collaboration with guitar great Yngwie Malmsteen is epic. Listen to it here.

"Toys in the Attic"- R.E.M. Back in their artistic heyday, these alternative rock pioneers covered Aerosmith's "Toys in the Attic" on the B-sides/rarities compilation, "Dead Letter Office." The song sounds gloriously college radio with a touch of garage band. You can listen to it here.

"Back in the Saddle"- Sebastian Bach with Axl Rose. Now is this a match made in heavy metal heaven or what? Sebastian Bach's scream nearly rivals Steven Tyler's and paired with the screechy Guns 'N Roses front man this song is a major meeting of the metal minds. This song appeared on Bach's 2007 solo album, "Angel Down." Listen to it here.

"Walk This Way"- Hank Williams Jr.- Thank God he's a country boy. Or not? Hank Williams Jr.'s 2000 three-disc compilation- "The Bocephus Box Set"- featured him covering everything from "Honky Tonk Women" to "House of the Rising Sun." But his totally rocked out version of Aerosmith's "Walk this Way" made us forget all about Run DMC's old school rap version.

"Livin' On the Edge"- Atreyu. This Orange County hardcore band covered this hit Aerosmith song on the EP, "Covers of the Damned," back in 2010. The track featured plenty of screaming and definitely gave a harder "edge" to this already hard rock song.

And finally, while it wasn't a studio-recorded cover, Aerosmith's 1975 song, "Sweet Emotion," was performed by Papa Roach on the show "MTV Icon: Aerosmith" back in 2002-- with Steven Tyler and the band sitting in the front row. We're assuming they approved of Papa's updated rendition, which was anything but sweet.
