Five Alternatives for a Movie Date

Lisa White ISSA & AFPA CPT
The old cliche of going to dinner and a movie has been deemed as one of the most popular ways to get to know someone. During this course of time a couple will spend an hour eating, trying to get the feel for the each other and learn immediately whether or not this person will be compatible for further dates. After the dinner a couple will go see a full length movie and sit by side-by-side for two hours and never say a word. Being engrossed in a film will not only have you paying attention to what is on the big screen but ignoring your date. The entire reason for a date is to get to know someone so why choose an activity that doesn't allow you to communicate with the other person. If you are really interested save the movie for the second or third date and check out these activities both of you can enjoy.

Miniature Golf

Putt- Putt and mini golf is an alternative to going to a movie. The course is outside and regardless of how athletic either person is this is a game that can be enjoyed by both. Locations with miniature golf often have a game room and food area for snacks making the date a casual but fun one.

Hiking

Take a walk on the wild side, pack a lunch and hit the trails for a day in the great outdoors. If this is a first date and you're not comfortable being on the trail alone invite another couple or two you know to come along. If you prefer not to hike take a walk in your community park.

Equestrian Center

Although you may not prefer to ride the horses an equestrian center offers a picturesque setting for picnics or walks. Depending on the center they may also offer horse drawn carriage, hay or sleigh rides for a reasonable price.

Wine Tasting

This doesn't mean you necessarily have to go to a winery to enjoy the taste of wine. For instance, Whole Foods Market offers wine tastings to anyone who would like to take part in the festivities. The tasting will be led by a knowledgeable delegate who will have favorites for you to choose from.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

If you are trying to create a moment to remember a hot air balloon ride is one that can really stand out compared to other dates. Hot air balloons can drift as high as 10,000 feet into the air but usually stay between 500-3000 feet depending on the company providing the service. There are many hot air balloon services which also offer romantic rides for couples which includes a champagne toast.

I vote for the balloon ride. Or just going to a quiet restaurant where you can talk.
