Five Articles of Comfortable Clothing for a Long Road Trip

Steven Moneyworth
Summer is a time when many people decide to go on road trips. One of the best ways to improve any road trip is to wear comfortable clothing. If you are going to be in a car for six to eight hours, why not wear something comfortable? Being uncomfortable during a road trip is a sure way not to enjoy your trip. In this article, I intend to describe the most comfortable clothing to wear during a long road trip.

Comfortable Road Trip Clothing Item #1 - Comfortable Underwear
All the rest of your clothing can be comfortable, but a pair of ill-fitting undergarments can make your road trip unbearable. When choosing underwear for your road trip, limit your selection to underwear that breathes, does not cling, does not "ride up," is not too tight around the waist or bust, and does not irritate your skin.

Comfortable Road Trip Clothing Item #2 - Flip-Flops
Flip-flops are the ideal comfortable road trip clothing item for two very good reasons. Flip-flops breathe and are easily removed. I know that when I am in a car for a long period of time, I like to remove my footwear. Shoes are more difficult to remove and replace, and your feet are still likely in socks. Flip-flops can be slipped off and slipped on at a moment's notice. I still suggest that you take a comfortable pair of shoes on your road trip, just in case your car breaks down and you have to walk a distance to the nearest town or gas station.

Comfortable Road Trip Clothing Item #3 - Shorts
If you are going on a road trip with other people, shorts are really the only logical lower-body choice for comfortable road trip clothing. Loose-fitting shorts will allow your legs to breathe and will keep your body cool. I would recommend khaki shorts over gym shorts or jean shorts.

Comfortable Road Trip Clothing Item #4 - T-Shirt
A single, loose-fitting t-shirt is the most comfortable upper-body piece of road trip clothing that a person can wear. A shirt such as this can breathe and allow for comfortable movement. You'll remain cool, even if the vehicle becomes hot or stuffy.

Comfortable Road Trip Clothing Item #5 - Sunglasses
Unless you do all of your road trip driving in the dead of night, a piece of comfortable road trip clothing you'll want to have are sunglasses. The best sunglasses to get are sunglasses that are polarized (this reduces glare) and that have 100% UVA/UVB protection (this will keep your eyes healthy). You don't have to invest much to get a good pair of sunglasses, as sunglasses that meet these specifications can be had for $15-20.

When on a road trip, comfortable clothing can be a lifesaver, keeping you from getting cabin fever or becoming unbearably hot. If you have any other suggestions for comfortable road trip clothing, please leave your thoughts in the form of a comment. Thank you for reading!
