The People!
In my experience, everyone at Austin Reggae Festival is super friendly. You can start up conversations with people and end up with friends who you'll keep in contact with for years to come. Sometimes people will invite you to come meet there friends or maybe you'll sit together and listen to the music. Everyone is very accepting, but it's Austin, so that's usually the case.
The Vendors
There are lots of vendors at Austin Reggae Festival selling all kinds of things from beer to jewelry. Between sets, it's nice to just walk around and see what's for sale. You may find some beautiful necklace to buy and remind you of your weekend at Reggae Fest.
The Performances
Although they aren't a huge part of the festival, there are performers near some of the vendors. During Reggae Festival 2010, there were tribal dancers dressed in native get-up. There was also a large crowd of spectators forming around them. So you don't just have to go for the music, there's other cool things to be seen.
The Music
The happiness of reggae music permeates the whole crowd! Down by the stage, you'll find dreaded hippies and girls wearing long, bohemian skirts all dancing to the music. There's so much energy and such a wide variety of people. Even though all the bands are part of the reggae genre, they all have a unique sound and a different mix of instruments.
The Food
Come to Reggae Fest hungry, because there's plenty to eat! As you walk past the vending tents, you'll find lots of different types of food and drink. The festival lasts all day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So don't worry, food will be there the entire time you wish to hang out at Reggae Festival. If you instead want to go eat at a restaurant, don't worry, you're allowed to leave and re-enter the fairgrounds. So you can go eat and come back to dive right back into the festival!
