I love to be festive at any time of year. I enjoy having fun with my look and celebrating the season. And I love feeling a little extra special, just for the fun of it. So during the fall and Halloween season, I like to play up my makeup and hair to match. Here are five of my favorite beauty products to look festive - not frightening - for Halloween.
Black eyeliner. Okay, I love black eye liner all year round. But during Halloween, I make it even more festive. A great, smudgey, smokey eye is a terrific Halloween look. But what I really love to do is a cat eye. Just take your black eye liner - I prefer a creamy, mechanical pencil with a little bit of glitter to it - and draw the line along your lash line. Flick the corners out and up to mimic the shape of a cat's eye. The thicker the line, the more drama you create.
Deep purple eyeshadow. Purple is my favorite color. I like to kick it up a notch during the fall by going deeper, darker, and more shimmery. I prefer to cover my entire eyelid with purple, but it looks great as an accent color, too. Use a pearl color under your brow bone and in the inner corner of your eyes to brighten your eyes. Use a taupe on your lid to contour Then, use your deep purple to accent your eyes and blend. Concentrate the purple in the outer corners for a modern, sexy look.
Black nail polish. Black nail polish is fun, especially when you don't take it too seriously. I often just keep it on my toes since it chips off of my fingernails so easily, and I look more professional this way. But wearing black nail polish is a fun, easy way to look festive. If black is too dark for you, try a rich purple color or a deep, dark red, instead.
Feather hair extensions. I'm very partial to feather hair extensions, and I wear them any time of year. But they are especially suitable for Halloween. You can order them in traditional rooster feather colors, neon colors, or just about any color combination you can imagine. Have them permanently installed or use clip ins. What a great way to have fun and add some extra pizazz to long or short hair.
Wine lipstick. If you're more serious about your looks but still want to be festive this season, try a deep lipstick. Wine or dark red lipstick comes in so many different shades, there's sure to be one for any skin color and style. The key to dark lipstick is making sure it doesn't bleed or smudge. Use a lip primer to keep your lipstick from bleeding. Make sure you line your lips with a neutral colored lip liner to help keep it from smudging. Add a dab of clear gloss in the center for fuller, poutier lips. And don't forget to check your teeth!
Have a little fun this season with your makeup and your hair. You can enjoy being festive while maintaining a beautiful, professional look. Remember to look polished, professional, and fun.
