Five Easter Games and Activities for Children During Church

Bill Smith
Easter is a very special time for people who are religious and it is a very fun and entertaining time for the children also. Easter is usually centered around the Easter bunny for the children, so if you are in church and are looking for things your kid can do then think about making the Easter bunny a central theme. There are many different games and activities your child can do during church for the Easter holiday, but if you need some ideas there are five that would be perfect.

A classic Easter egg hunt would be perfect for any child attending church services this year. If you do not want to go through the hassle of coloring real eggs then you can get some plastic eggs. Plastic eggs usually come in about 100 packs and will cost you around three dollars at your local retail store. What you can do is hide these Easter eggs all over the church either inside or outside and then have the children bring a bag from home or a basket. When the children get to the church you can then instruct them on if the Easter eggs are inside or outside and then tell them to start looking for the Easter eggs. The Easter egg hunt is always a great thing to do at church because there are always a lot of children eager to participate. You can fill the plastic Easter eggs up with something like an inspirational message if you want it to be faith-inspired or you can fill each egg with a piece of candy. You can also make a rule of the child with the most Easter eggs gets a special gift basket filled with candy or some other cool little gift. If you do not want to single out a particular child for getting the most eggs then you should fill each egg with a piece or two of candy and tell the children whatever they find in their egg is for them to keep.

You can also have a big reverse Easter egg hunt at your church where the children will be the people hiding the Easter eggs. You can get all the children of the church together and give them instructions to hide the Easter eggs either inside or outside while the adult group has services. Once the services are over for the adult group, they can then go try to find the Easter eggs that the children hid while they were attending church services. This is a good activity that the children can do during church to keep them occupied while the adult group has their services. You can divide the adult group up by ages or make teams of two so that you can find the eggs faster.

Another game that children can do during church for Easter is to play a guessing game. You can get a jar and fill it with something like pastel candies for the Easter holiday or something church related like crosses. Have the children then guess how many are in the jar of that item and then the child who gets the closest without going over will get a prize. You can make the prize something small like maybe a gift bag of candy or something special like a Bible. This is a great game you can use to center around Easter and the significance to the church community and it will keep the children entertained.

For children attending church you can also have them do a matching game using pictures or things related to Easter and the significance of the holiday. You can get some pictures like crosses, the Easter bunny, dinner table, and other items relating to the Easter festivities and meaning. Make two index cards for each item and then mix them up and lay them out on a table. Have the children go around trying to match the cards together, if they get a wrong combination move onto the next child. If a child gets a matching set of cards then they can have another turn until they get a wrong combination. Go around the room until each child has had a turn or until all of the cards are turned over and matched. This is a great game because after each matching set of cards, you can explain why that object or item is important during Easter. You can get the index cards for a dollar at your local retail store and then either print off items that relate to Easter or write down words that describe Easter.

For children who attend church during Easter you can also have them play a game pinning the tail on a bunny. This is a very fun game and does not need much work to get it started since all you really need are cotton balls and a big poster board. You can get these items at your local retail store for a few dollars and it will create hours of fun for the children while they are in church. You can also get a blindfold so that the children can be in the dark during the pin the tail on the bunny game. You first will need to draw a big bunny on the colored poster board making sure it is big enough that it takes up the whole board. Then blindfold the child so they can not see and give them a piece of cotton ball and spin them around. Spin them around about two or three times and then see how close they come to putting the tail on the right spot on the bunny. The child who gets their cotton ball the closest to the tail will get a special prize. The special prize can either be some candy or something more special that you think will help them understand Easter. This is a great game for the children to play during church because it takes a classic game to another level and will be a great learning tool when it comes to the traditions and significance of Easter.
