Five Easy Homemade Ice Cream Sundae Ideas

Tara Van Ness
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Ice cream is the favorite dessert of millions of people around the world. Ice cream sundaes are even better, but chocolate syrup with a cherry on top, or a banana split can get boring. Here are five ideas using only a few ingredients in addition to vanilla ice cream to make delicious, easy, homemade ice cream sundaes at home!

Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream Sundae

Crumble up some graham crackers, add a few chopped strawberries, and a some small dollops of strawberry flavored cream cheese. This tastes so good, almost like a frozen cheesecake. For variation, you can add more berries. If you wanted to add a simple berry syrup, or some whipped cream, your ice cream sundae would be even more rich.

Baby Ruth Ice Cream Sundae

The Baby Ruth candy bar is one of the most famous candy bars. You can have this delicious version of the candy bar in an ice cream sundae. Simply combine peanuts, caramel, and melted milk chocolate chips. Chocolate syrup won't takes as good, but is acceptable. Another thing that tastes amazing on this ice cream sundae is chopped up pieces of fudge, either chocolate or peanut butter.

Caramel Apple Ice Cream Sundae

Also called an apple pie sundae, adding a couple of ingredients makes this ice cream sundae taste like apple pie with ice cream. Chopped apple, caramel syrup, and crumbled pie crust or sugar cookie, makes one of the best ice cream sundaes to eat when apples are in season.

Reese's Ice Cream Sundae

Melt milk chocolate chips in the microwave, 10 seconds at a time until melted. Combine a bit of cream, peanut butter, and a bit of powdered sugar and pour into a pan. Freeze until hardened, then break into pieces and mix with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and peanut butter cookies for a very rich peanut butter and chocolate combination treat to die for. Of course, you can sprinkle crushed Reece's cups or Reece's pieces over the sundae too.

Death By Chocolate Ice Cream Sundae

Chocolate syrup, chocolate cookies, chocolate chips, milk chocolate pieces, throw it all in. Try to combine different chocolates, such as dark chocolate, mint chocolate, or specialty chocolates to create a confection that will have you reaching for a big glass of milk, and another bite.

Making your own ice cream sundaes at home can save you a lot of money each year, and allow you to be creative with ingredients. Set aside a special ice cream sundae night for your family once or twice a month. You can invite a couple of the kids' friends over and experiment with toppings and combinations!

Just don't forget the vanilla ice cream!
