Five Easy Steps to Make a Professional Looking Power Point Digital Photo Album

Danielle Olivia Tefft
All of us have digital photos on our computers or cameras that would look really nice organized in a polished, presentable format to show our friends and families. A Power Point digital photo album can accomplish this.

Small business owners should also consider reviewing this tutorial. It gives the steps by which you can quickly make a digital photo album to showcase your landscaping design, hand crafted jewelry, or other business in a very professional looking package.

Step 1: Making a Power Point Digital Photo Album:

Open Power Point to start working on your first page (they are called "slides" in Power Point lingo). This should be your title page; your front cover. The cool thing about Power Point is the slides are preformatted. You will see the dashed box in which to type your title text. There is room for more text in the larger dashed box.

You will also see that you can click on a picture icon. This is how you will insert your photos into the Power Point digital photo album. (Any time you do not see that icon right on the page, select "Insert" on the tool bar and then click on the picture icon.) A "Browse" menu will appear that you can select your photos from, wherever you have them stored in your computer.

When you are done inserting photos on one page and want to move to the next page of your Power Point digital photo album, simply select "Home" on your tool bar and click on the "New Slide" icon.

Step 2: Making a Power Point Digital Photo Album:

Don't be afraid to play around here! As you can see by my example slides in this tutorial, you can change the size of your photos, rotate them and move them around. They can also be larger than the preformatted dashed line boxes on each page, so feel free to think outside the box!

To do all these things, the photo you are working on must be selected (click on it). You'll see the square around it with resize, move, and rotate points. Play around to get the feel. If you don't like the result, delete the photo and retrieve a fresh copy to play with by using the "insert" tool.

Step 3: Making a Power Point Digital Photo Album:

Ok, now let's frame your photos! Again, click on the photo you wish to work on. Click "Format" on the tool bar. (You'll see "Picture Tools" above it.)

Hover over any frame style you like-try them all! Once you find one you like, click on it and it will stay with your photo. Notice how many of the frame options include shadows! So cool!

Step 4: Making a Power Point Digital Photo Album:

Ok, your Power Point digital photo album looks great with all those framed digital photos. But the backgrounds are all white.

Select "Design" on the tool bar. At the far right, you will see "Background Styles". Click on it and hover over the colors given. I like a pale background that doesn't compete with my photos! Once you've found the background for you, click on it and it will stay with the whole Power Point digital photo album, no matter how many pages you have!

Step 5: Making a Power Point Digital Photo Album:

By now, you have an exceptional Power Point digital photo album worth bragging about! Don't forget to save it!

Here are some finer points:

You can change the font. Font size, and color all from the "Home" menu on your tool bar. When you click in the page text boxes, you will see your choices.

If you want the same text on each page, select it on the first page and hit "Ctrl C" on your keyboard. Every where you want that text, hit "Ctrl V" on the keyboard.

If you want to add text under a specific photo, select "Insert" on the tool bar and click "Text Box." A cross will appear in place of your cursor. Wherever you click on the page, you'll be able to add text. You can also drag and drop this text box wherever you want after you click on it.

You can rearrange the order of your pages. Select "View" on the tool bar. Click on "Slide Sorter". All your pages will be in front of you! Drag and drop them in any order.

Notes:

Power Point is a Microsoft Office tool. If your computer doesn't already have Microsoft Office, you can purchase the software CD at an electronics store like Best Buy. I recommend getting Microsoft Home and Student 2007, which I have. For around $79, it is way cheaper than the professional version.

Before you begin, it is helpful to have all of the digital photos you are going to use in one file location on your computer. Because I download them from my digital camera, all of mine are found in a "downloaded pictures files" area of my computer desktop.

This is not to say, your Power Point digital photo album can't be a work in progress. You can add photos in the future as you wish! I would recommend having not many more than 100 digital photos per Power Point digital photo album, though. More photos than that makes the album really slow to load and save!
