Five Easy Ways to Change the Look of Your Ceiling Fan Without Replacing It

Rose Alexis
If you have a ceiling fan that is a bit worn or outdated, there are ways to refurbish it or refresh its look without having to go through the hassle of replacing it entirely. The following five options will help you create a look you enjoy, rather than one you dread seeing, day in and day out.

One: If the globe section of your ceiling fan is outdated, you can peruse the hardware and lighting stores to replace it with a more modern, stylish, and/or attractive version that will please you. Sure, the yellow and green flowered pattern painted on your current globe matches your room, but it sure is ugly. If so, get out and get a new globe. The replacement is easy to do, it is just a matter of unscrewing one and screwing in the other, and the results can make a world of difference. Just make sure you have the correct sizing measurements with you when you shop.

Two: If you have worn or outdated looking paddles on your fan, you can update those as well. You can purchase paddles in a variety of materials, such as wood, wicker, or plastic, and really update the statement that they make. This is an especially great trick if you are remodeling a room and are looking for that final finishing touch. Replacement, again as with the globe, is as easy as unscrewing one set and screwing in another.

Three: Dress your fan up. You can paint stencil a design that you love on your fan paddles to really dress it up and complete the look of a room. If you are doing this in a child's room, you can go all out and make a theme of it...put airplanes on that match the blankets, or stencil your child's name on it. The options are as endless as your imagination, and the results can really be stunning; this is especially true because it is not an option that is commonly exercised in decorating a room. That of course, will make this option a real stand out method for completing the look of your fan, and even the room itself.

Four: Get a fan pull that you love. Today's market has no shortage of fancy fan pulls. Choose novelty items, such as angels, animals, or shaped pulls, such as hearts, diamonds, etc. Or choose from a fancy or elegant type of pull made of crystal, cobalt, or some other elegant material. Or maybe you want to opt for some decorative tassel pulls that match tassels on the drapery or furniture that is within the room. You really can find any style or design that you wish for, and it does and a great element to the fan.

Five: Paint the brackets that hold the paddles in place with a complimentary or contrasting color to add new life to your fan. You can choose metallic colors, soft pastels, or bright, vivid shades. Make sure you use painters tape on the paddles to avoid dripping paint on them, or remove them entirely when painting (don't forget that drop cloth on whatever is beneath the fan). The procedure is very simple to do, but it can create a new and refreshing look for your fan that is stylish and attractive.

These five tips are easy and cost effective ways for you to dress up an existing ceiling fan without the hard work of having to replace it. The end result can be anything you want it to be; from casual, to elegant, to fun, and anything in between. Happy decorating!
