Calorie-Cutting Tip #1 - Eat Open-Faced Sandwiches
Many people eat sandwiches or hamburgers on a regular basis. A simple way to cut back on the number of calories that these meals contain is to remove the top piece of bread, thus making the sandwich "open-faced." A single piece of bread can contain over 100 calories. Depending on your eating habits, removing a piece of bread from each sandwich or burger can reduce your weekly caloric intake by a considerable amount.
Calorie-Cutting Tip #2 - Carry a Water Bottle
If you carry a water bottle with you on a regular basis, two things happen. First, you are less likely to pay money for sugary, calorie-laden drinks such as juices, teas, coffees, and sodas if you already have a drink with you. Second, you are more likely to drink throughout the day and will stay full on water instead of snacking.
Calorie-Cutting Tip #3 - Dilute Sugary Beverages
During the summer months, many people drink increased amounts of lemonade, iced tea, and other sugary beverages. If this is the case for you, consider diluting each serving of this drink by half. For example, rather than drinking 16 ounces of lemonade, add 8 ounces of water to 8 ounces of lemonade. At first this may take some getting used to, but it is an easy way to halve the calories that you consume from a given beverage and make drinks that you buy last twice as long.
Calorie-Cutting Tip #4 - Keep Track of Your Caloric Intake
This is simple. Write down the caloric value of each food that you consume in the course of a day and keep the total in plain sight wherever you go. After this, keep a daily journal or spreadsheet of your daily caloric intakes. Knowing that you will have to answer for errant candy bars and soda for the rest of the day and in the long term will make you reconsider snacking on unhealthy foods. This should not make you reluctant to eat, but should make you consider whether or not you are eating from hunger or eating from boredom.
Calorie-Cutting Tip #5 - Eat Regular Small Meals
Rather than having three large meals throughout the course of the day, consider eating five smaller meals. These smaller meals will ensure that you aren't hungry throughout the day, reducing the likelihood that you will snack between meals or binge during larger meals.
