When this is the case, it's an even simpler way to gain this knowledge.
The most common way to gain a trade is working under a 'lazy' boss; one who has you to do all the work because they have no means of doing the job themselves. Of course they will use the statement: "That's what I hired you to do..." But in actuality, they are not aware of how much they are educating you of the job at hand. With the many tasks/assignments you are assigned or demanded to do-you are learning the job, and sometimes you even get so good at it, you are then able to be promoted to a higher position-giving you the opportunity to learn yet another trade.
Another sure-fire way to gain knowledge in a certain trade is to work under family members. This is generally the traditional way of learning things. Working in a family business always offers you the opportunity to learn trades and skills of a certain business. Take for instance: A young boy (not interested in the automotive industry) has to work with his father at the body shop after school-mindless to what he's gaining, the son instantly learns the trade and can soon start his own business as well.
A few records have proven that doing volunteer work can add a few skills to your resume instantly. Once you have been involved with certain programs or organizations, it's not a mistake to learn certain aspects pertaining to the business. This is also another version of working under someone, but just as it is with many skills, it takes you wanting to gain the knowledge, and to put it to use in a most positive manner.
Working as an intern definitely gives you a boost in the knowledge category; although most interns are offered these opportunities through an institution, some are not.
There is another way to gain a trade, but it's not familiar among many; some people do research on certain trades when searching for a career, and being educated through the research may land you the perfect job-and without previous knowledge, or training.
There are so many ways to gain knowledge of a certain trade or skill. The possibilities are endless, but the main ingredient would be the eagerness to learn!
