How The Grinch Stole Christmas
We're all familiar with the story of the reclusive Grinch disgusted with the Whos celebrating Christmas down in Who-Ville. So he tries to break it up by stealing all things Christmas from the town and, after the fact, he learns a thing or two about Christmas. Not to mention about himself. With the character Boris Karloff puts into the narrating, on top of the story itself, it's understandable why this Dr. Seuss classic is unforgettable.
The Santa Clause
A memorable and heart-warming story of a father and his son being pulled apart by a divorce between his parents. That's until the father, Scott, hears someone climbing on the roof and startles him. Which causes the person to fall off the roof. The person turns out to be Santa and, due to the accident, Scott is left taking Santa's place. Which his son finds out about and they become closer because of it.
A Christmas Story
"You'll shoot your eye out". Everyone knows that quote to be from A Christmas story as said by Santa Claus to Ralphie. Once he gets the Red Ryder BB gun he nearly does shoot his eye out but hides the truth from his mother, instead blaming an icicle for breaking his glasses. To think, this movie started out as low-budget and became a classic.
A Charlie Brown Christmas
This is another Christmas classic I remember watching since I was a child. It's the only, to my knowledge, mainstream Christmas special that quotes the bible. At the part with in the auditorium Linus quotes Luke 4-8 about the birth of Jesus. Which is what far too many Americans have forgotten that is what Christmas is supposed to be about. Many of us need to learn the lesson Charlie Brown. Commercialism doesn't make for the perfect holiday.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
I was barely twelve when this movie came out and I still have vague memories of seeing it for the first time. Yet, it is the movie that actually turned me to the classic, "A Christmas Carol" movies from 1938 and 1951. Both which are superior classics in their own right. But for children, "The Muppet Christmas Carol" is a better choice due to its more light-hearted take on the ghost of Christmas future/angel of death scene.
