Five Exciting New Places to Be Entertained Within Second Life

Christopher Blydenburgh
The top 5 places to be in SL....would seem like an easy task right? Wrong. In my wonderings in SL, I have found so many places that I can call my favorites, so it wasn't easy for me to narrow it down, but I took on the task and was able to complete my mission. I decided to break things down into 5 simple categories: nightlife, fun, clothes/shopping, education and culture. Come with me for a brief gallivant throughout SL and see things how I see them.

Second Life (SL) is a virtual platform hosted on the Internet that was created by Linden Labs as a virtual hub where people can recreate themselves as avatars and can meet with other people in social and business settings created by users for other users to share.
Nightlife, this is something that we all know about. We venture from club to club trying to find the one that suits our needs and wants, but it isn't always that easy. I recently discovered Club Leo. It's a relatively new club that offers great music, even greater atmosphere and promises an awesome time. Club Leo hosts events a few times a week offering the highest prize payout I have yet to see matched elsewhere. The best part about these events is that they are often Newbie friendly with very simple themes, giving everyone a chance to walk out with most $L than they walked in with. I've met some of the best people in this club, and I go there as often as I can, the only downside is that it tends to be a bit crowded, so it can sometimes be a bit laggy. However not really a bad thing, since when it comes to nightlife, "the more the merrier".

Sometimes we SLers are sit around with seemingly nothing to do, and don't really want to do anything productive, just simply want to have fun, next time you find yourself wanting an adventure head on down to The Tunnel Of Light. At first glance this sim seems like just another store with some neon items for sale, but once the environment settings are set to midnight the scenery comes alive! A trail of glowing footprints leads you to the adventure that awaits and a simple paper boat floating on a pond is the portal to wonder. Once you have traveled to your destination, hop into a teacup for either one or two, and sit back and gaze at what might possibly be the best kept secret in SL. The ride itself lasts only about 5 minutes, but the impression you are left with will last much longer than that. The first time I took this teacup ride, I was like a kid at an amusement park, my eyes couldn't look around fast enough to take it all in, and since I hawk it every chance I get, and every time someone goes and rides the ride I always get the same response..."That was awesome!!".

This is possibly my favorite thing to do in SL.....shop!! As a girl, I can never have too many clothes or shoes, so when I found this little gem of a store, I thought that I had died and gone to shopping heaven. Nyte N Day is aimed toward the casual dresser who wants to look fabulous but not break the bank. The average outfit costs roughly $200L with some being cheaper than that. The quality rivals that of its much more expensive competitors, so these are perfect for that person who needs or just wants something new but doesn't have a lot of Linden to throw around. I'll never forget the day I happened upon this store, I had 1200L and I was determined to buy myself something nice. When I first got to the store my first impression was "wow, this store looks amazing, I know it's going to be expensive". When I started looking at the prices I was shocked at how low they were, and that was all it took. I went through that store like a woman on a mission and scoured the walls looking for that perfect outfit, I found 5. Bought them without hesitation and still left with enough money in my wallet to treat myself to a much needed pair of earring to match.

We've all seen places to take classes on scripting and building advertised throughout SL, but did you know that you can actually take college classes in SL as well? I sure didn't, but on my travels I found a virtual campus that represents the very well known St. Leo University. I was amazed!! I toured the campus and was able to read a brief history of the university, find out what classes are offered by the university both ground and online classes, as well as go to the library and find "books". I also took a look around and found out that a student who is enrolled at St. Leo is able to live on campus with other students, so even if you are a distance learner you can still have a quasi campus life experience offering live events and other college-ish stuff.

Last but not least is my cultural experience. Museums are scattered all over the SLverse and I hit a lot of them. There are many different types ranging from Modern art to philosophy, but my absolute favorite is the Museum of Robots. Even if you aren't a sci-fi buff, this place is worth the trip. As you walk you are greeted by familiar robot voices from Hollywood's history, as well as a brief history of robots themselves. There is a section of robots that have been built by other SL players (my favorite is the robot with the tiny robots inside fixing his tin heart), but the best part comes at the end. Once done you can create your own tiny tin man, choosing a head, arms, legs and even color. Follow the assembly line and your creation will be delivered to you once he is completed. The kicker to this little metal man, he is wearable!! You get to dress up in your own creation and run around as a robot. Oh and along with being a souvenir of your time at the museum, the cost of your creation is the time it took you to make it, its 100% free.
