This isn't about you.
For all of the crazy NFL fans out there with an irrational point of view regarding their favorite teams...Chill the heck out already. This isn't a personal attack on your fandom. Nobody is talking about you behind your back during these negotiations. The team owner isn't going to ban you from coming to the arena when the dust settles.
I'm directing this toward the super fans who root for sucky teams and think that every year is your year, and those who go to cold weather games wearing nothing but full body paint and pasties(sic). You people need to take a deep breath and meditate. You seem just a tad bit unstable in the head region, and might think the lockout is a personal flight against your person. It's not, so don't worry about it.
The union and owners are about a dollar.
The NFL lockout has absolutely nothing to do with providing a better product on the football field. Obviously. If that was the case, there would be talk of contraction, or possibly adding an extra bye week to the regular season.
This is 100% about the money. Baseball might still be a favorite pass time to some Americans, but another MLB Strike wouldn't phase as many people as the NFL lockout has. The National Football League is this countries favorite professional sports organization. As the money continues to roll in, everyone involved wants to see if they can get a bigger piece of the pie.
Not every NFL player is smart with their money.
Nobody will have to worry about Payton, Drew Brees, or Tom Brady if the 2011/12 season is lost. Those guys have plenty investments. Surly they have enough money in the bank to tide them over. There are players in the NFL, however, who do live paycheck to paycheck.
Some of them spend most of their money on non essentials as soon as they get a check. They create a standard of living that they have no chance in maintaining without a NFL salary. Is that their own fault? Yeah, but I just wanted to point out that some of these guys aren't legit millionaires, and will end up struggling in the long term.
Choosing sides is a waste of time.
Not only is choosing sides a waste of time, it's a waste of emotions as well. I don't feel sorry for the players. I don't feel sorry for the owners. They'll get this worked out eventually. There's not a doubt in my mind about that.
If either side wants to come out in the media and play the victim, that's too bad. Such a feeble attempt to gain sympathy fails when everyone applies logic to the situation. None of this had to happen the way it did. The lockout happened because of greed.
You can live without football.
Is it possible to play Fantasy with any other pro sports league? If the answer is yes, than a little down time from the NFL isn't that big of a deal. If your not a fantasy nut, there's always College football to tide you over!
What's that? You say you don't like College football? Oh bother... Well, Fire up the ole Nintendo Entertainment System, invite some friends over, and start your own Tecmo Super Bowl League You'll at least have an exaggerated facsimile of great football to entertain you in the coming months.
Recap: Everyone is making money hand over fist in a wonderfully successful sports league. The money is never enough. Owners want a larger piece of the pie. Players want to see what the leagues books say regarding their profits. Everything could have been worked out without all of the drama, but nah. Step away from the ledge, and just wait for this to play itself out.
