The Backyard BBQ
Nothing says elegance quite like chicken & beer. Keep it real by making the reception seem like your usual football tailgate party. This idea is so casual and laid-back it's practically fail-proof. Choose an outdoor venue, or your own backyard. Have a chef cook up some of your grilling favorites like hotdogs or chicken wings. Hold a beer tasting, with a vast selection of kegs from around the world... Just be sure to leave the keg stand out of this kind of party!
The Beach
If your nuptials are taking place next to the shoreline, then the after party is perfect against the backdrop of crashing waves and a setting sun. Set-up cabanas right on the white sand with their own fire pits (since it can get chilly) for your guests to enjoy. Hire a live band to play music for entertainment, but if that's not enough, make sure to tell your invitees to sport their swimsuit under their evening attire and they can always go for a late night swim.
The Casino
If it was up to you, you would've driven to Vegas and just gotten hitched through a curbside chapel. However, your parents insisted on a proper (and expensive) wedding. Incorporate the vibe of Vegas into the reception. Hire burlesque dancers to entertain the crowd. Set up poker, roulette, and blackjack tables with professional dealers for you and your guests to play. You can bet everyone will have a great time with their virtual trip to Sin City.
The Lounge
There's something chic and sophisticated like the open space of a loft. It's a blank canvas to turn any idea into reality. And because buying out a venue like a posh club or classy lounge for a night is almost impossible if not highly expensive, re-create your own in a loft-style space. Lofts usually provide floor to ceiling windows, make sure to choose a location overlooking the city, ocean or anything with breathtaking views. To create the lounge feel, instead of tables with typical linens, set up couches and private booths for seating. Arrange several bars and hire waitresses to take drink orders and even provide bottle service. Book an experienced DJ and even a doorman and you and your guests can enjoy a night of swanky VIP treatment.
The 1980s
Most young couples getting married today are 80's babies, why not kick it old school with a 1980's theme. Layout nostalgic games on each table like Trivia Pursuit or even the classic Rubik's cube. Most modern receptions are setting up Wii stations, but not yours... Instead bring the original Atari back, with games like Pac-man and Astroids for your guests to reminisce on old times. Finally, get everyone on the dance floor to bust a move with classic music by Madonna, Prince, and Duran Duran of course.
