Five Fantasy Football Players I Don't like as Much as I Should

Five players I'm not buying into as much as others are heading into the 2010 fantasy football season:

Percy Harvin, WR, Minnesota Vikings
Harvin shows flashes of brilliance when he plays. But those persistent migraines are a headache for fantasy owners, as well. In 2009, Harvin was listed as Probable or Questionable nearly every week, it seemed, leaving fantasy managers in that difficult position of having to decide whether to start a player who might not play. We all face that a few times throughout the season, but I don't want to deal with that from week to week from my WR2. I'm going to steer clear of Harvin, even though Brett Favre is back and even though I know that when he's on the field, Harvin is a productive WR2.

Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals
I might regret this, but I just can't see picking Fitzgerald as a WR1 in 2010. He's among my favorite NFL players, and I love his work ethic, but what I don't like is enough to keep me from drafting him in the first or second rounds this season - I have little faith in Matt Leinart's ability to run this offense right out the gate; I don't like that Fitz has missed preseason time with a knee injury, time that he should be bonding with his new starting quarterback; and I don't like the fact that Anquan Boldin is no longer lined up on the other side of the field from Fitzgerald, helping take away some of the pressure. If Leinart surprises me, I'll wish I had gone after Fitzgerald early, but as it is, I'm going to play it cautious and wait on him until the middle rounds ... when he's sure to be gone.

Knowshon Moreno, RB, Denver Broncos
I'm having a hard time explaining this one, but I'm just not "feeling" Moreno in 2010. I know he rushed for 947 yards and seven touchdowns in 2010, and I know he's being projected as an RB1 by many fantasy experts, but I'm thinking sophomore slump with this guy. The Broncos' offense isn't doing a whole lot for me on paper, and Moreno has been battling a hamstring injury in the preseason. In addition, Denver has Correll Buckhalter and Justin Fargas on the roster, and I won't be surprised to see Buckhalter steal some goal-line work and even some early-down work if Moreno struggles at all. I realize the loss of Brandon Marshall means Moreno is now the Broncos' biggest offensive stud, but hamstring injuries can be pesky, so I'm gonna wait on him as either a late RB2 pick or a bye-week fill-in.

Cedric Benson, RB, Cincinnati Bengals
Cedric was an entertainer in 2009, racking up 1,251 yards and six TDs in just 13 games. That followed a 12-game season in 2008, when he rushed for 747 yards and two TDs. I'm not sure I see Benson topping the 1,000-yard mark in 2010, and I'll be surprised if he betters those six touchdowns. I'm also disturbed by his history of missing games - he's been absent in 12 regular-season contests over the past three years. Many are thinking RB2 for Benson in 2010, but I'm thinking bye-week fill-in.

Lee Evans, WR, Buffalo Bills
Sure, he's the top receiving target for Trent Edwards in the Bills' offense, but I'm not sure how big a deal that is these days. Evans has had some nice seasons - 843 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie in 2004; 1,292 yards and eight TDs in 2006 - and he topped 1,000 yards as recently as 2008 with 1,017 ... but scored just three touchdowns. He's coming off an '09 season in which he caught 44 passes for 612 yards and seven TDs. Not bad for a WR3 or a backup, but I just can't buy into Evans as the WR2 many are projecting him to be.

What do I know?
I've been playing fantasy football since 1998, and have participated in a keeper "dynasty" league since 2003. I also play in two or three single-season leagues each year, because as much as I love the keeper format, it's just fun to draft each season. I'm putting together these lists not because I think I'm a fantasy football expert (although I DID finally win my keeper league, plus another single-season league in 2009) but because I'm researching these players and stats and figured maybe I could help out other fantasy managers along the way. I'd love to hear your thoughts and projections on players for the upcoming season.
