Five Fast and Easy Last Minute Gift Ideas

Jennifer Eblin
Last minute gifts might have a negative connotation. The phrase makes you think of gifts that you grabbed from the gas station, convenience store, or any other store still open on Christmas Eve or late at night. Last minute gifts do not have to come from a cheap store. As long as you have a little bit of time before guests arrive, you can still pull together something magical.

Potted Plants

Purchase a potted plant from your favorite big box store and buy some extra wrapping paper. Unroll the wrapping paper and place the plant in the center. Carefully fold up the edges of the paper, tucking it over the planter. Secure the paper to the planter with small pieces of tape or glue. Wrap a ribbon around the front for a festive touch.

Decorative Notebooks

A simple notebook makes a fun last minute gift and only takes a few minutes to finish. Smaller notebooks are perfect for use as address books, while larger notebooks make a fun journal. Use vintage wallpaper, wrapping paper, or scrapbook paper for the cover and back of the notebook. Cover the front and back cover with decoupage glue and carefully wrap the paper around the notebook. Secure the paper to the inside cover and back with more glue and cut off any excess paper. For an extra special touch, leave a note on the front cover.

Cookie Jar Treats

A true last minute gift makes use of any holiday cookies you have or other treats you have on hand, including brownies or fudge. Fill an old cookie jar or glass jar with a few treats and wrap a ribbon around the front. If you have a little extra time, decoupage a picture of Santa Claus or another holiday themed picture onto the front.

Kitchen Kit

A kitchen kit is a super simple last minute gift for anyone that loves baking or cooking. Simply wrap a new dish towel around a wooden spoon and set inside a plastic mixing bowl. Add a few baking necessities, including vanilla, cinnamon, baking powder, and baking soda. If you need to fill out the bowl a little more, line the bottom with extra dish towels.

Candle Holders

If you like crafting, grab a few small glass candle holders and plastic or lace doilies. Cover the outside of the candle holder with spray adhesive and wrap the doily around the glass. Press the doily against the glue and trim off any excess. Place a red, white, or green tea-light or votive candle inside. A group of candles make a quick last minute gift that you made yourself.
