Five Female Celebrities Whose Fifteen Minutes of Fame Should Be Up (We Hope)

Rolando Cruz
It seems today's Hollywood is always willing to make good on Andy Warhol's famous 1968 statement that, "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." While I am sure that Warhol could not have foreseen the ever expanding world of the internet, cell phone video clips, or reality television, he nevertheless made a remarkably astute comment on what would pass for celebrity status 42 years later. Here then are five female celebrities whose fifteen minutes of fame should be up.

Tori Spelling

Let's be real, Tori Spelling's claim to fame is being the daughter of famed TV producer Aaron Spelling, a connection that made it possible for her to land the role of Donna Martin on the television series Beverly Hills 90210. A poor actress on her best day, Tori followed up her stint on 90210 with such dubious made-for-television movies as Co-Ed Call Girl, and Mother, May I Sleep with Danger. Now a staple of the Oxygen Network with her reality series Tori & Dean: In Love, the darling Ms Spelling entertains us all with such tabloid making tidbits as her recent claim that she received a message from beyond the grave, from Farrah Fawcett, in a reading with celebrity psychic John Edwards. Tori Spelling is definitely one celebrity whose fifteen minutes should have been up long, long, ago.

Miley Cyrus

After reaching unthinkable heights of popularity as Hannah Montana in the Disney Channel show of the same name, Miley Cyrus seems hell bent on following in the same destructive footsteps of follow Sagittarius and ex-Disney actress Britney Spears. Though Cyrus' life has yet to reach the level of chaos that has encircled Spears, she seems headed in that direction with such controversies as the Annie Leibovitz Vanity Fair cover. The magazine covered featured a 15 year old Cyrus seemingly topless on a bed. Sufficient to say that you can't go a few days without hearing about Cyrus' latest tattoo (like the "Just Breathe" tattoo on ribcage, or the more recent "Love" tattoo on her ear), or controversy over the teenager's wardrobe. With one season left of Hannah Montana (the final season begins in January 2011), here's hoping Cyrus 15 minutes of fame will soon come to an end.

Heidi Montag

Famous for her appearance on MTV's The Hills, the vapid wannabe actress and singer has made her share of headlines over the past few years. Aside from her overly publicized wedding to the equally insufferable Spencer Pratt in 2009, Montag also made the cover of People Magazine this year for being addicted to plastic surgery. In June, Heidi was back in the news after filing for legal separation from Pratt. For some people, like Heidi, 15 minutes are fame are 15 minutes too many. Let us hope then that people's fascination with Montag is quickly coming to an end.

Kate Gosselin

A celebrity courtesy of the reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8, Kate Gosselin is yet another reality television star whose fifteen minutes of fame should be up. As if her endless appearances in tabloids and celebrity magazines (for giving birth to sextuplets and for her recent divorce) were not enough to showcase her lack of sterling qualities or talent, Gosselin's appearance on Dancing with the Stars should have painfully highlighted all the reasons why her fifteen minutes of fame should now be up. For those not convinced that Kate's time in the spotlight is finally coming to an end, consider the fact that after the successful release of several non-fictional books, Gosselin's 2010 offering "I Just Want You to Know: Letters to My Kids on Love, Faith, and Family, has been a bomb, debuting outside the top 100 on USA Today's bestseller chart.

Megan Fox

Yes, Megan Fox is a sex symbol whose name has been at the top of most Men's magazine (like Maxim and FHM) over the past three years. During the same span of time Fox has graced the covers of other magazines like ELLE, Entertainment Weekly, and GQ. However, the actress' public overexposure seems to have more to do with her tattoos, plastic surgeries, on again-off again engagement to Brian Austin Green, and her ability to get booted off the Transformer movie franchise, than with her talents as an actress. If further prove is needed, it should be noted that Fox's last two movie's, Jennifer's Body and Johan Hex have failed to garner positive reviews for the starlet.

I'm with you... some people have stretched their '15 minutes of fame' into years of mind-deadening, talentless, inane media noise.

What about Jessica Simpson, who's now so desperate for legit fame, she & her pimp dad have her on another reality show? Have you noticed most of these non-legit stars seem to always be selling products too (perfume, clothes, etc.)? The public's obsession w/ these wannabes mirrors people's own shallow lifes--pretty sad........
