Five Fingers Toe Shoes

May Look Silly, but Work Wonders

Jessica Rowe

I have to admit, when I first heard about these toe shoes, I laughed at them. I thought they were a silly idea, looked ridiculous and there was no way they could protect feet against pavement, or rocks. It was not long before I was proven wrong.

The Five fingers Toe Shoe may look a little odd and take a little time getting used to, but they really are amazing shoes. They hug your feet, just like a toe sock does, but there ones you can run around outside in without tearing open the bottoms. They even have a Vibram sole so there is no slipping and your feet are safe from cuts and jabs from rocks and roots.

These new and innovative Five Fingers Toe Shoes are designed to allow feet to move in a more natural way, where tennis shoes or hiking boots would restrict these movements. This more natural, free movement is supposed to make feet healthier by stimulating and exercising them.

While it is fine to wear the toe shoe wherever, whenever you want their rugged and durable design makes them a great and desirable shoe for the outdoor enthusiast. What I really like is that they are made not only for men and women but for kids as well. With the toe shoe and its Vibram sole, there is no more worrying about kids slipping on rocks or stepping on small pieces of glass, while at the river.

On the Vibram Five Fingers website, there is only one style of shoe for boys and girls and men and women have a nice selection of styles and colors to choose from. Hopefully as the popularity of the toe shoe grows, more toe shoe styles and colors will be available for kids. My son would love a black and green pair.

The prices of the toe-shoe may seem a little high, but they are really no higher than a sneaker at your local sports store. What is even better though, is that the toe shoe can go into water and not get that broken down feeling like many sneakers get once they have been in water. If you are considering getting a pair expect to spend around $80 for an adult pair and around $65 for kids. Your local sports store may already have some in stock but if not there are many sites online such as Vibram Five Fingers, REI, Toe Shoes and Amazon, where you can get them at.
