Five Fresh and Fun Ideas for Styling Your Hair for a Christmas Party

Arene Penelope
It is natural for guests who are invited to Christmas parties to want to look their best. It so happens that a huge part of this grooming process involves styling one's hair. Women, in particular, have a variety of looks to go for that are elegant and sophisticated or fresh and spunky. This guide details five Christmas party hairstyle ideas for women.

Partial Bumpit Updo (With or Without Ponytail)

This is the fad hairstyle of the season for women.

Materials:

Two regular Bumpits, hair clip, styling comb or brush, hair spray

Instructions:

1. Part and section off the front of the hair at the crown, teasing it with a comb and leaving two front side sections of hair hanging down.

2. Place a regular Bumpit behind the part.

3. Part a second section of hair behind the regular Bumpit (teasing it with a comb), and place the second Bumpit behind this section.

4. Pull the two sections of hair on the crown over the Bumpits, evening them out over the grips.

5. Pull back the two sides of hair hanging down over the Bumpits and secure with a hair clip.

6. Leave the back section of hair loose or arrange the entire section of hair beneath the Bumpits in a ponytail.

Bumpit French Twist Updo

This Christmas party hairstyle works for women with hair that is shoulder-length or longer. I've tried it and like the elegant look.

Materials:

Regular and large Bumpits, bobby pins or hair combs, styling comb or brush, hair spray

Instructions:

1. Part and section off the front of the hair above the ears.

2. Part a second section of hair and place one regular Bumpit behind the part line.

3. Part a third section of hair behind the regular Bumpit, and place a large Bumpit behind this section.

4. Pull the last two sections of hair over the Bumpits, securing them over the grips.

5. Twist the hair that hangs below the Bumpits upward (French twist), securing it with bobby pins or combs.

6. Pull down the top section of hair from above the ears and style it in a spiral fashion, pinning it down and using hair spray.

Spiral Curls

I love this Christmas party hairstyle that works for women with hair that is shoulder-length or longer, giving them a spunky look.

Materials:

spiral curling iron, thermal protective or heat-activated spray

Instructions:

1. Wash your hair, apply leave-in conditioner or mousse, blow dry hair, and apply thermal protective or heat-activated spray.

2. Plug in the spiral curling iron and heat it at the best setting for your hair.

3. Part a one-inch section of hair and clamp down on the end of it above the top groove of the heated spiral curling iron.

4. Twist the iron upward so the section of hair spirals along each groove.

5. Hold for eight seconds.

6. Release the clamp of the iron and unwind the hair.

7. Repeat for each section.

Flipped Out Layers

This fresh and fun Christmas party hairstyle works on women with hair ranging from very short to long.

Materials:

round (vent) brush, hand-held hair dryer, styling mousse and wax

Instructions:

1. Wash hair, towel dry, and apply mouse to both roots and ends.

2. Using a small round (vent) brush for short hair or larger round (vent) brushes for longer hair, glide the brush through a top section of hair, curling the hair over at the ends and holding for a few seconds while blow drying the hair.

3. For each section, unwind the ends of the hair from the round brush and texturize the flipped ends with wax.

Two-Strand Overlap Braid

This is a fantastic Christmas party hairstyle for shoulder-length to longer hair that I've recently learned and tried. It is perfect for fly-away hair and is a style that keeps the hair out of the face.

Materials:

Brush, hair clip

Instructions:

1. Wash and thoroughly brush your hair.

2. Beginning at the crown of your head from the hairline or behind your bangs, part a triangular section of hair.

3. Divide the triangular section into two symmetrical sections.

4. Make an "X" by crossing the left section of strands over the right section of strands.

5. With palm up, use your right hand to hold both sections of hair, keeping them divided with your index finger.

6. Beginning at your left side hairline, pull over a 1-inch section of hair into the middle of your right hand, crossing over the previous left section of strands and joining the new section with the right section of strands in your right hand.

7. Place both sections of strands into your left hand, keeping them divided with your index finger.

8. Beginning at your right side hairline, pull over a 1-inch section of hair into the middle of your left hand, crossing over the previous right section of strands and joining the new section with the left section of strands in your right hand.

9. Place both sections of strands into your right hand and continue the pattern of making an "X" until you arrive at the nape of your neck.

10. Gather the hair in a ponytail and secure with a hair clip.

Without question, these Christmas party hairstyles will put women in a festive mood. All of these hairstyles are simple to accomplish using affordable styling tools. Even more, there is something for all age groups, hair types, and personalities.
