Five Fun and Wacky New Health and Fitness Products!

Jenna de Salea
Every year we get a slew of new fitness gadgets that may or may not make us slimmer and fitter, but sometimes they just sound fun to try out no matter what. Here are a list of the five most fun and wacky fitness products to come out over the last year.

Tension in Your Back? Lay on this mat of plastic spikes!

Accupressure enthusiasts have been huge devotees of laying on spiked mats or beds like this. This mat from Style Wellness, is not only great for relieving tension and pressure, but it is also portable and easy to take with you just about anywhere. Some swear by the mat in lieu of using other sleeping aids like pills. It is less expensive than an actual acupuncture session so why not give it a try? Imagine the looks you'll get when you roll out your mat of spikes before bed!

Fashionable Bracelet Weights

So it's not the most fashion forward thing to walk out of the house in your ankle and wrist weights, so a company called Banglz came up with a slightly more fashionable way to wear wrist and ankle weights outside of your house. They're slimmer and come in some funky prints, so maybe they can be disguised into every day wear. But they're fun anyway, so another conversation piece at the gym!

Weigh yourself without the weight?

If you're like me and you dread looking at the number on the scale every morning, there is a new scale out that doesn't tell you your weight, but only tells you how many pounds up or down you are. Dr. Oz and Tyra Banks have featured the Quantum Scale on their shows, and it allows you to focus on progress rather than a specific number. So no more dreading those weigh ins!

Working Pantyhose

Just like the shoes that tone your lower body with every step, these pantyhose from Shatobu are equipped with resistance bands within the fabric to tone your legs and increase circulation with every step. How cool is that? Just put on a pair of pantyhose and get a workout? I'm in!

This is just hilarious...

The Shake Weight. It's been lampooned on SNL and Jimmy Fallon, and it just won't ever get old. I tried one out not too long ago, and once I stopped giggling I was amazed at how much of a totall workout it gives your muscles with minimal effort. Will it replace the full range of motion of traditional strength training? Probably not, but it's a fun way to tone your arms anyway.

Whether these products work or not really doesn't matter, does it? No matter what wherever you go if you take one of these new fitness gadgets out, you're sure to start a conversation!
