New Year's Resolutions for Improving Your Health

Tony Payne
The month of December is the worst for many people when it comes to eating and drinking too much. December means lots of office parties, family parties, tables loaded with party food, and for many a large sit down Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.

Add to this all the gifts of food, cookies, chocolates and other tasty things, and by the time you ring in the New Year, your body is in need of a good servicing.

Here are Five Good Tips for looking after your health in the New Year.

#1. Lose The Weight That You Gained Over Christmas

A good way to start is to follow the tips in New Year's Resolutions For Improving Your Diet and to try to quickly lose the pounds that you gained as a result of eating and drinking too much as well as too much of the wrong thing.

#2. Start An Exercise Program

Going on a diet is only one half of the equation for losing weight and getting back into shape. The other half is exercise, and this can take many forms.

If you live in an area where it's possible to walk or exercise outdoors, walking off the pounds and exercising the muscles is a great thing to do.

If you are unable to do a lot outdoors because of the weather, use exercise equipment indoors, or have a fun workout to dance videos or computer programs like Wii Fit.

You can also go walking in the winter in many shopping malls, or go to an indoor pool and go swimming, which is a wonderful way to keep in shape.

#3. Try To Shed Those Things That Make You Stressed

Stress can not only cause you to gain weight, it can shorten your life and make life unpleasant as well.

We get stressed for many reasons, including being overweight, having relationship problems, and also financial problems.

If you are already committed to following the first two steps, going on a diet and starting an exercise program, then this should help you to worry less about being overweight.

It's up to you to make a New Year's Resolution to improve any relationships where you are having problems, and to try to resolve issues that may be troubling you.

Finally if you are having financial problems, try to do something about them. Take a look at Five Good New Year's Finance Resolutions to see if these tips will help you.

Having made plans to reduce your stress levels, you ought to find life and health in the New Year looking up for you.

#4. Take A Winter Vacation

While you can do so much working out at home and in the gym, there is nothing like a Ski Trip to help you shed those pounds.

If you can afford it and you enjoy skiing, a Winter Break can be really beneficial in helping you to get back in shape after the Christmas binge season.

#5. Book A Spring Vacation

One incentive for losing weight and working out is to book a Spring Vacation that involves plenty of walking and hiking.

Nobody wants to take a trip like this when they are out of shape, so not only will it inspire you to get into shape before you go, the walking and trekking through the woods and hills is a great way to give your body a good workout, and there is nothing like the Great Outdoors and plenty of fresh air to bring your body to life.
