Five Graduation Gifts That Keep Giving Long After the Day is Over

If you are looking for graduation gifts that will keep on giving long after the big day has come and gone, the following five ideas should be considered.

One: You can buy stock investments or a bond for the graduate. This is a great gift because it can be used to teach and help graduates to value the importance of doing more with their money than spending it and allow them to track their earnings (or losses, depending) as they go. You can purchase as little or as much as you like, just be sure to put the item in the graduate's name. The beauty of this gift is that it might inspire the graduate to actively participate in investing their money throughout life.

Two: Purchase community college credits for your graduate, if you know for certain that they plan to attend. You can arrange this with the school so that you have prepaid a certain number of classes for the semester or for subsequent semesters. The gift of education is one that never stops giving.

Three: You can purchase a constellation in the name of your graduate. This is a great gift for the Science or Astronomy lover as well as a fantastic one for the romantic by nature. The gift of the star will come with an official certificate and a map of where to find it in the sky. This gift keeps giving because the recipient will always remember how special you thought they were at this very moment, every time they look towards the sky.

Four: If your graduate is going away to college but you prefer he or she not live in the college dorms, for whatever reason, and the graduate feels that way as well, you can sublet or rent an apartment that is close to their campus for their use during their college years. The great thing about this gift is it offers freedom and independence to the graduate and takes a very large financial burden off of their shoulders as well. There is also a plus in that you can research neighborhoods prior to rental or leasing to ensure the student is going to be safe. The down side is this type of freedom could be abused if the student utilizes it in the wrong way (party time, anyone) or it could deter the student from being as socially active as they might have been would they have bunked in a dorm room. This gift can be a really great one but caution must be given to ensure it is given to the student who will utilize and appreciate it in a manner conducive to enhancing their studies, and not vice versa.

Five: One of the most common and most useful gifts that you can get your responsible graduate is a car. Again, this is a gift to proceed with in caution. A safe and reliable vehicle can do wonders for ensuring the graduate is able to be mobile and have freedom, and it is a great way to reward all of the hard work that has gotten them to where they are now. It is also, however, a tool that can be used to draw them away from their studies or get them in trouble or in danger if they use it to flee school responsibilities or drive recklessly in any way.

This time in the life of a graduate is a very special one to be remembered always. Choose your gift carefully, especially if you are selecting from a major idea such as those listed above. You want to ensure that the recipient of your gift knows you appreciate and care for them and their well-being, but you also want to make sure the gift is tailor-fit, so to speak, to the personality of the person you are giving it to. I would say better to err on the side of caution for the final two suggestions, and not purchase them if there are any doubts at all as to how they will be used. If the student is responsible and can handle the gifts, however, the final two suggestions can be not only memorable but also very useful and effective towards the student's future growth.

Whatever the choice, when choosing a gift that keeps giving, it is essential to choose with care, common sense and a sense of reflection.
