Five Great Books to Help in Remodeling Your Kitchen

Yona Gold
Many homebuyers are opting to purchase homes that are older and due to such great interest rates are buying these properties "as is". One of the ramifications of being a homeowner is the upkeep that is required. With this in mind, many people choose to take on the daunting task of having to remodel different areas of their home. One way that people get ideas, especially if they plan on doing it as a do-it-yourself project, would be to purchase books that focus on the area of the home to be remodel. Enter the world of the kitchen remodel book. There are so many books available in local bookstores and at online retailers, such as Amazon.com. These books range from total kitchen remodels to replacement of cabinets. Here is my top five list of kitchen remodel books.

1. Concrete Countertops: Design, Form, and Finishes for the New Kitchen and Bath by Fu-Tung Cheng and Eric Olsen (ISBN 13: 978-1561584840), is a book that gives great information and ideas on countertops that are made using concrete. This doesn't sound like a great countertop idea. However, the designs and intricate work that can be created using concrete is beyond the mind's imagination. This is a very reasonable alternative to much pricier, marble countertops.

2. Kitchens That Work: The Practical Guide to Creating a Great Kitchen by Martin Edic and Richard Edic (ISBN 13: 978-1561583195), is a book that gives those who don't have a clue an idea as to what they want something to work with. This full color book has kitchen designs for those that have different ideas of what the kitchen needs to be such as a family gathering area, a comfortable work area for a would-be chef, or just a place to prepare a meal. The ideas range from elaborate designs for rich and wealthy to those that can fit even the most meager budget.

3. Kitchen Ideas that Work (Ideas That Work by Beth Veillette (ISBN 13: 978-1561588374), is the ideal book for those that want to do some small things to enhance their kitchen. Many of the ideas that Veillette gives in her book will cost less than $20. Many of the ideas will give more of a homey feel to a kitchen, regardless of the homeowner's style.

4. Renovating a Kitchen (For Pros by Pros Series) by Fine Homebuilding Editors (ISBN 13: 978-1561585403), is a book that holds some valuable information for those that are looking at doing a kitchen renovating. This book gives good, general information on the staples of the kitchen remodeling world, countertops and cabinets.

5. Tips & Traps for Remodeling Your Kitchen (Tips & Traps) by R. Dodge Woodson (ISBN 13: 978-0071445863), is a book geared more towards the person that is hiring an outside contractor to do the kitchen remodel work. This gives one tips and hints on how to handle the screening process of contractors, the manner in which to approach what should be done in the kitchen. This is a great book for those first time homeowners (male and female) that don't have a clue as to how to begin the process.

These books again are available at your local bookseller, as well as at many local libraries, as well as many other titles of interest to those doing a kitchen remodel.
