Five Great Family Movies

Jumanji (1995) starring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst. This new classic will appeal to a child's imagination, as they watch a board game "come alive" with monkeys, rhinos, and lions. Set in an idyllic New Hampshire town, two unsuspecting orphans discover a long forgotten board game. Opting to play the game instead of going to school, they unleash all sorts of trouble, including a Alan Parrish (Williams) who has been trapped in the game for twenty-six years! Together they must finish the game before it can finish them! The heartwarming ending will surprise and delight audiences.

Jurassic Park(1993)starring Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum. Dinosaurs are brought back to life in this action adventure that will thrill parents and kids alike. The luxury amusement park/zoo, Jurassic Park, is on the brink of opening. Hoping to reassure his investors of a profit, the owner recruits an archeologist (Neil) and a chaos theorist (Goldblum) among others, to tour the island park. The owners quirky grandkids come along for the ride. However, all is not well on the island. One of the island workers is intent on selling the secrets of the park to competitors. In an attempt to flee the island with confidential dino DNA, he disarms all the security fences, allowing the dinosaurs the run of the island. Soon the race is on for all the island guests to make it back to the resort before they become extinct!

The Goonies (1985)starring Sean Austin and Corey Feldmen. This classic tale of hidden treasure and pirate ships is the perfect kids-beat-the-bad-guys movie. Watch the wacky adventures of a comical bunch of misfits, who are trying to save their homes from the evil land developers. In their quest for One-Eyed Willies long lost treasure, the kids discover an outlaw family, who follow them in an attempt to steal the treasure! Along the way, the kids, who call themselves "Goonies" find out what it means to have true friends.

Harry Potter and Sorcerers Stone (2002) starring Daniel Radcliff and someone. The original Harry Potter movie is still the best. Explore Hogwarts School for Wizards through the eyes of first year students, Harry, Ron and Hermione. When Harry discovers he is half-wizard, he happily leaves his terrible aunt and uncle, to set off for the mysterious Hogwarts. Danger and adventure lurk around every corner for Harry and friends, but somehow they always manage to escape. Full of funny moments, and fantastic special effects, this movie sets the bar for great family entertainment.

Shrek (2003) starring Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz. This hilarious spook on Disney fairy tales will keep parent and kids in stitches. Myers provides the Scottish brougue for lovable ogre Shrek. Eddie Murphy is the perfect sidekick, as Donkey. And Princess Fiona (Diaz) is not your run-of-the-mill damsel in distress (though she tries hard to be). Shrek puts a new spin on classic fairy tales, and teachers audiences it is better to just be yourself.
