Five Great June CD Releases
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Miley Cyrus, Sarah McLachlan, Derek Trucks Band and the Cowboy Junkies
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Mojo
It has been 8 years ago since, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released a studio album, The Last DJ in 2002. It has been four years since Tom Petty's last solo album Highway Companion in 2006. In the void of time in between their have been collections and side projects. The bands hay day may have past in the early 90's or earlier. However, Mojo may change that. The collection of 15 brand new songs could send the band back to heights they have not seen since the early 90s. Rolling Stone calls Mojo "one of the best he's (Tom Petty) ever made with the band." Highlights of the album include Something Good Coming which you can watch the video at YouTube here. The song is wonderful, but for those looking for a song that rocks a little harder try this one on YouTube. Mojo is scheduled to be released June 15th.
Miley Cyrus Can't Be Tamed
Miley Cyrus is one of the biggest pop stars a round. The new album features the title song and current single "Can't be Tamed." The album also features an appearance from Poison front man Bret Michaels. "Michaels helped Cyrus with her cover of his band Poison's hit "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" on her new album being released June 22.
Sarah McLachlan The Laws of Illusion
Lilith Fair is back again this summer and the concert series would not be the same without Sarah McLachlan. Sarah McLachlan is set to release her first album since her 2006 Wintersong release. The first single of her new album has been performed on the Tonight Show and is called "Loving You is Easy." A lot of the album sounds like vintage Sarah McLachlan from the samples heard at Amazon.com. Loving you is easy does not and has a 70's pop or a lounge song vibe to it. The album consists of 12 songs and an added alternate version of one song. The album is scheduled for release on June 15th.
Derek Trucks Band Roadsongs
Roadsongs is the first live recording from The Derek Trucks Band in six years. Derek Trucks is one of the best guitarists in the world. He has toured and played with Eric Clapton, he has been a member of The Allman Brothers Band, so to here him play live with his own band a guitar fan is sure to get a treat. His band pulls on his jam band, southern rock, and blues background brushed up with some classic R&B hints and jazz highlights for blaring treat. (Information pulled from being a fan and amazon.com.) Roadsongs is scheduled for release on June 22.
CowboyJunkiesRenminPark
The Cowboy Junkies return with an album of new songs. The album features the song writing and guitar talents of Michael Timms and his sister Margo adding her wonderful vocal talents. The album influenced on a stay in China according to their website. One highlight from the album is a slow waltz called Little Dark Heart or the haunting song Cicadas. You can listen to some rough mixes on the website before the albums release on June 15.

Post a CommentLove Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers! Great to hear they've released a new CD. I'm not a Miley Cyrus fan, though.
I have to admit, Miley is growning on me too, but I love Sara Mc, oh well, not going to try to spell it.
I can't believe I'm saying it, but Miley Cyrus is actually growing on me. Saw the video for "Can't Be Tamed" and ... wow! The girl has versatility!
Nice... :o)
What a diverse month! Thanks.
Oh yeahhhh...Tom Petty, rock and roll doesn't get any better. Well, I love the Zep still. But alas, they are no more. Incidentally, I like Sarah Mc. too but I also love Beethoven's Fifth (my favorite), Creedence Clearwater, quite eclectic eh!? I am probably the only grandpa on my block that loves Led Zepplin (that I know of). Great review of some really great releases Mike.
