Five Great New Year's Eve Activities in Las Vegas for Low key Partyers

Angela Coleman
Nobody does New Year's Eve celebrations like Las Vegas!

Many folks travel long distances just for the experience of bringing in a brand new year in our city. There are endless places to go and things to do.

If you are looking for a good time, but not really up to hard-core partying, don't worry. There are plenty of places that will satisfy you.

Here are some listings of just a few of what is being offered:

CDUSA's American Party Live From Fremont Street
425 Fremont Street
Las Vegas, NV 89101

Far too many people neglect the charms of the downtown area of Las Vegas for ringing in the New Year. It's just as festive as it is on the Strip and you will probably be able to get a hotel room a lot more easily than you would in the other area of town, since Strip hotels get booked for New Years Eve months in advance.

This year, DIRECTTV is having a celebration, including live music from bands Chicago, All-American Rejects, Smash Mouth, Five For Fighting, OK Go and Rockstar SuperNova.
This is nationally televised, so you might even get fifteen seconds of fame as the cameras pan over the audience of revelers.

The party will encompass the entire four blocks where the Fremont Street Experience is usually held and there will be a number of street vendors, access to casinos and restaurants and a host of other perks.

Sorry folks, this is not a "freebie." You can only get admittance to all this enjoyment for $80.00 per person and all attendees must be at least 18 years of age. The area will be gated especially for this event. The gates start opening at 5:30 p.m. and the activities continue on until 1:00 a.m.

Some people like to dress up, while others prefer to dress casual. I personally think casual dress is more practical, since you'll probably be doing a lot of standing and walking, do it's important to be comfortable.

If you plan on attending this shindig, then you'll need to call to get tickets as soon as possible, before they sell out.

The Beach Boys at the Luxor Theater
3900 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Las Vegas, NV 89119
1-800-557-7428

If you want to welcome the new year in with beach music, you can't do better than attending a special Beach Boys' performance at the Luxor Theater at the Luxor Hotel.

Tickets will run you $60.00, $80.00 and $100.00, in addition to fee and tax, but considering that this is the Beach Boys and it is New year's Eve, these prices are relatively decent, compared to much more expensive tickets for other celebratory events in town.

The performance starts at 9:30 p.m.

I suspect there are going to be lots of people snapping up tickets for this, so call the Luxor for information on how to get tickets as soon as you can, because time is of the essence here.

David Copperfield at The MGM Grand's Hollywood Theater
3799 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Las Vegas, NV 89109
800-929-1111

Magician David Copperfield will be appearing at the MGM Grand's Hollywood Theater on New Year's Eve.

Although he does have earlier performances, you will most likely want to attend his 10:30 p.m. New Year's Eve performance, because at its conclusion, they will have a special midnight ball drop to bring in 2007. In addition to all this, the MGM is still one of the classiest places on the Strip.

Tickets are $97.00, in addition to fees.

Call them for information on how to get tickets before they run out of them.

The Riviera Comedy Club
2901 Las Vegas Blvd., South
Las Vegas, NV 89109
702-794-9433
Rock's Lounge

Some people want to signal in the new year with some laughs, so the best place to do that is at one of Las Vegas's foremost comedy clubs.

The Riviera Comedy Club offers performances by rising comedians O'Brien & Valdez, Monty Hoffman and Prescott Tolk on New Year's Eve.

Price-wise, it's a bargain as far as New Year's Eve entertainment goes out here. Tickets are just $19.95, plus taxes. There are two shows, one at 8:30 p.m. and the second at 10:30 p.m.

Although they do allow kids under age 18, if they have adult consent, I wouldn't recommend that you bring children who are too young, especially if you plan on going to the later performance and staying a little later at the Riviera for further celebration. Some comedy shows tend to touch on risque subjects, so I personally don't think this is age-appropriate for younger children.

The showroom capacity is for just 350 people, so, call them for information on how to get a ticket without delay.

Zowie Bowie at Rock's Lounge at the Red Rock Casino Resort Spa
11011 W. Charleston Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV 89135
702-797-7777

This will be the Red Rock Casino Resort Spa's first official New Year's Eve celebration, since they only opened in April of 2006.

If you want to experience a little of what it is to see a real Vegas nightclub act, then Zowie Bowie is one of the best.

Zowie Bowie consists of Marley Taylor and Chris Philips and they are sure to please any crowd with their high energy dancing, singing and witty conversation, more like an updated version of the glitzy kind of entertainment Vegas is famous for.

They appear at Rock's Lounge and, since they regularly perform on Saturday nights from 8:30 p.m.-2:00 a.m., they will be there to help you usher in 2007.
