Five Healthy Steps to a New Job

Establishing a Credible Routine that Will Lead to a Job

Peter Thomas
As I have written in previous articles, I was laid off from my job a few months ago; and have made some positive changes to my lifestyle that has reaped tremendous benefits. In retrospect, I have targeted 5 basic steps that keep me motivated. Let's be honest, it is very depressing to be laid off; and self-esteem falls into the toilet big-time. The biggest challenge is realizing that the only person who is going to change that around is you. A new job isn't just going to fall at your feet by some major miracle; it just doesn't happen that way. Family and friends try to help out; but at the end of the day, it is you who will get that job, not them. So, how do you go about that? Use the following five steps daily; and you will notice an immediate change in your mental and physical well-being.

STEP 1 - Set the Alarm Clock; and Stay Away from the TV. Set your alarm clock every day Monday through Friday for an early morning wake up; as if you were going to work. If you think about it, job searching and achieving optimum health are full-time jobs. Keep in the habit of getting up early. Stay off the sofa and leave the television alone. If you must, do not turn it on until after 5:00 pm. I recommend a conversation with someone or reading, instead of watching TV; but that's me.

STEP 2 - Exercise Early Morning. Start an early morning workout regimen; using a combination of free weights, cardiovascular exercises, and stretching. Walk around the block on the first day; then twice the next day. Before you know it, you're walking, or running 5 miles a day. If you are out of shape, gradually work into it; but do something. I recommend taking natural herbal supplements to strengthen the circulatory, immune, skeletal, and digestive systems; and take herbal antioxidants to promote healthy cell structure and remove toxic substances from your body. I personally recommend nature's Sunshine herbal products; but that's me.

STEP 3 - Eat Healthy All Day . Eat small portions of healthy food 3 or 4 times a day. Immediately remove red meat, fast food, processed food, dairy products, white flour, sugar, salt, trans fats, and alcohol from your diet. After exercising and stretching each day, eat unflavored yogurt with organic fruit and granola. My favorite is 0% Greek Yogurt with organic strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries; with organic hemp and flax grain over the top. At noon, eat a small green salad with an herbal dressing. My favorite is farm grown romaine lettuce with cured olive pieces, broccoli, and bits of broiled salmon. Mid-day, try to eat a small snack, such as a natural oat or grain bar; or even unsalted and roasted nuts, such as cashews, walnuts, and pistachios. Prepare an evening meal of green vegetables; and either natural free range chicken or wild salmon.

STEP 4 - Job Search All Afternoon. Get in the game. Rework your resume and cover letter; and place it out on job placement web sites. Register yourself with placement agencies. If necessary, re-invent yourself; it can be done. The previous 3 steps will build up your self esteem; and give you the energy levels you need to be motivated. Believe in yourself. Even with a daily routine of job searching, getting a new job takes time and patience. Learn to accept rejection, it will happen. I actually became motivated by rejection. The success story is that when calls start coming in for interviews, you will have that healthy look about you when you walk in the door. A healthy personality is huge during an interview.

STEP 5 - Spend the Evening with Someone You Truly Love. Whether it is your wife, husband, friend, partner, mother, father, sibling, or animal; spend quality time conversing and expressing love. Love is very healthy. Have conversations about your accomplishments each day with regard to the previous 4 steps above; and discuss your game plan for the following day. Then either read or watch TV; and get a good night sleep. It will surprise you how much sleep you get. And, most of all, you deserve it; as you have actually worked all day.
Conclusion - You will find a new job. Good luck!!
