Drink Tons of Liquids
Drinking liquids is perhaps the easiest way to thin out your mucus and get it flowing again. The last thing you want when you have sinusitus is to get dehydrated, so liquids are important. Water is the best thing for you to drink, but other good options include green tea, broth, light colored soft drinks and sports drinks.
Use Warm Wash Cloths
Placing a wash cloth under hot water and then wringing it out will give you temporary relief from sinusitus and will feel really good while doing it. Allow the wash cloth to cool a little bit to keep from burning yourself. Doing this often can help you to loosen up your sinuses, and get a bit of relief and comfort while you are waiting.
Inhale Some Steam
There are many methods for treating sinusitus with steam, and perhaps the best of them is to fill a bowl with hot water. Once the bowl is full and steaming hot, then lean your face over the bowl. Place a towel over your head so that you get the direct steam from the bowl. You can also do this over a sink with hot running water. A hot shower has long been an effective home remedy for sinusitus as well.
Gargle With Salt Water For Drainage In Throat
Sinusitus often causes horrible drainage in the back of your throat that can quickly lead to a sore throat. If you are suffering from drainage, then try gargling with salt water. Add a teaspoon of salt water to a cup of hot water and gargle. It will help to keep your mouth clean and ease your sore throat at the same time.
Use Nasal Saline Washes
A saline wash can help a great deal if your nose is stuffed up from sinusitus. They come in many forms including sprays, pumps and nettie pots. Saline spray is superior to nasal spray because it has no harmful side effects or chances of becoming addicted.
Home remedies for sinusitus are not likely to be dangerous in any way, but if you are wanting to try them out consult your doctor. These five home remedies for sinusitus are effective when you suffer from a chronic condition and can not take antibiotics but so often.
