Keeping the Mind from Wandering While Making Money

Seth Joyner
Adult ADD/ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) can be very troublesome for many men who are just trying to feed their families and make ends meet. It's hard for many men that have ADD/ADHD to remain motivated and happy with their occupation especially if their illness conflicts with their work tasks. Below is a list of five occupations that suit men with ADD/ADHD and why.

Welding- welding is a great opportunity for men to perfect a skill and have direct visual feed back at the end of the day to see what they've accomplished. ADD/ADHD has a tendency to make men wander or get bored very easily with redundant tasks. Welding can provide a change in tasks and environment daily. Learning and knowing materials and welding procedures is key to this trade; however many men will find fun and fulfillment in burning metal together as well as collecting excellent pay for their services. If a person with ADD/ADHD is interested in going into business for themselves; welding can be a very easy entry into the market place with relatively low start up costs.

Collision Repair- autobody work is a great way for a man with ADD/ADHD to let their creative side show and spark interest in the change of work from day to day. No collision is the same, allowing for constant change. Autobody requires more artistic skill and creativity rather than strenuous knowledge. Working with filler and damaged panels can really spark a man's creative side allowing him to visualize what the end product of his work will be along with the satisfaction of seeing the finished results when he is done. For a man with ADD/ADHD it is very hard to get bored doing autobody because there are always new challenges every day and creative thinking is key to this trade.

Car Painter- for a man with ADD/ADHD this can be a very fun and rewarding trade really allowing creativity and visualization to shine through. Car painters with ADD/ADHD have a tendency to better visualize a vehicle before it's painted with a good idea on how the finished product will look. Painting is mostly a physical skill that only requires knowledge of basic elements of the process to perform the job. Men with ADD/ADHD are also very good at picking colors for a car because of their vivid imagination. There is little to forget when you're in a paint booth spraying a car; all the materials and sequence of events can be put in place before ever picking up that paint gun.

Drywall Finisher- if you're a man with ADD/ADHD and you're into home repair or doing commercial construction than this may be a good trade for you. Drywall finishing allows the user to problem solve and think outside the box as well as being creative and using their hands. Slinging drywall compound on a wall and shaping it to perfection is a good way to let the artistic side of ADD/ADHD to come out and shine.

Mechanic- if you're a man with ADD/ADHD and you enjoy cars and working with your hands then being a mechanic may be a good job. Being a mechanic does require a large amount of accumulated knowledge, but it is a very interesting trade to know how cars work. Auto repair may spark you interest in solving problems while learning about engines and electrical systems hands on. Memory does play an important role in doing mechanic work, but ADD/ADHD seems to shine through for continuing to keep a man's interest in performing mechanical tasks and problem solving; the ability to think outside the box is key when facing challenging mechanical problems.
