Five Kinect Games that Young Children Can Play

Brandon Miller
My three year old loves to watch me play video games. Unfortunately, he is to little to figure out all of the complex functions of the basic controller. For this reason, I was very excited when Microsoft launched the Kinect for the Xbox 360. I soon found that there were several games that he could figure out on his own. Here are five great Kinect titles that are appropriate for your young children.

Kinect Adventures

Kinect Adventures is the default game the comes with the Xbox 360 Kinect sensor. It features five different arcade style games that the whole family can play together. If you are unsure if your child is ready to play games for the Kinect, let them try Kinect Adventures first. You might be surprised how fast they pick it up.

Kinectimals

This one is my son's favorite. In the game, players play, train, and care for exotic pet cubs such as tigers, lions, jaguars, and leopards. The goal of the game is to explore a deserted tropical island searching for buried treasure that was hidden by a captain who was shipwrecked there long ago. The game is especially easy for young children to play. If your child already has Kinectimals, they might also enjoy Fantastic Pets which is scheduled to release spring of 2011.

Kinect Sports

If your child likes sports, they are sure to love Kinect Sports. In this game, players can engage in six different sports - soccer, bowling, field and track, table tennis, volleyball, and boxing. While there are a couple different sports games for the Kinect such as Deca Sports Freedom and MotionSports, I feel that Kinect Sports is better geared toward younger age groups.

Kinect Joy Ride

My son has loved cars since he was a baby (I think his 200 piece Hot Wheels collection is proof enough). I knew that he would love Kinect Joy Ride, so I downloaded the demo for him to try. At first, I was concerned that the concept would be to hard for him to understand. I was surprised that the controls were much easier than I had anticipated. In the go-kart style races, players use their hands to turn an invisible steering wheel to guide there car around the track.

Carnival Games - Monkey See Monkey Do

Carnival Games: Monkey See Monkey Do is another great game to expect for Spring 2011. This game features 20 carnival style games that the whole family can enjoy. In addition to body motion, the game is also set up to accept various voice commands which makes it even easier for young children to play.
