"Courageous" is a wonderfully written movie. It explores the importance of fathers and the dynamic impact a father has on a family through his presence or absence as a father. The presence of a father has a remarkable impact on a child's self-esteem. A child growing up in a household having both a father and mother in the home is the first symbol of how a relationship can work in either a positive or a negative manner. Overall, there are five remarkable lessons a person can learn after watching the movie "Courageous."
- The active presence of a father in a child's life is something money cannot buy. Father's have an enormous responsibility of being the head of the household, which often translates into a father working long hours away from his family. However, the father that commits to spending quality time in a child's life will notice how much it really means to the son or daughter and positively affects his or her behavior.
- Tragedy can bring a family closer together or tear a family apart. The movie "Courageous" explores the impact losing a loved one to an unforeseen tragedy has on one family. It further shows how this tragedy brings this family closer together. It highlights how growing deeper in faith, allowing time for grieving and appreciating what you still have are all a part of the healing process.
- Trouble does not last always and prayers are answered when least expected. Throughout the movie, there are challenges each family faces and one family in particular is coping with the difficulties of a father finding and maintaining a full time job. However, the father reassures his family that through prayer "God will never leave or forsake his family." The father remains prayerful and finds a full time position because of his relentless faith and willingness of never acting outside of God's will and his own integrity to seek employment.
- Your faith is something that is constant in a test of its strength and courage. It is always time to hold both yourself and your friends accountable for any wrongdoings. The movie "Courageous" shows how friendships often face the test of following through with a commitment to honor God first no matter what.
- Forgiving others is a never-ending journey. Time may never completely erase the memory of the pain or disappointment someone has caused you in your life. However, the choice is yours in choosing to forgive and erase the debt and thought of the person owing you something in return. Life is all about choices and your response to whatever happens in your life. The movie "Courageous" shows how regret affects a person's life but how admitting wrongdoings and both asking for and giving forgiveness frees a person from feelings of inadequacy.
The movie "Courageous" is a deeper examination into the God given roles and responsibilities of fathers. Overall, it shows how one father challenges four others to commit completely to being an active role model and continuous example of a spiritual father.
