5 Memorable TV and Movie Christmas Presents

Check Out What Santa Left Under the Tree for These TV and Movie Characters!

Victoria Leigh Miller

If you need a little help coming up with ideas for this year's Christmas list, look no further than your favorite classic TV shows and movies. From a priceless book to a convenience store haul, here's what some classic characters gave-- and received-- in Christmases past:

Tom Sawyer Book- George Bailey, "It's a Wonderful Life"

Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings! In the 1946 movie "It's a Wonderful Life," George Bailey learned that lesson in a special way when a signed copy of the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer magically appeared under his Christmas tree. But it wasn't the classic book that made this gift so special-- it was the inscription from his newfound friend, an angel named Clarence, who reminded the once-despondent George: "Remember no man is a failure who has friends."

A four-leaf clover- Kevin Arnold, "The Wonder Years"

Sometimes the smallest gift is the most special. In the "Wonder Years" episode, "Christmas," Kevin Arnold frantically tried to come up with the perfect Christmas gift idea for his crush, Winnie Cooper, while also trying to convince his stingy dad that the family needed a new color TV set. But when Winnie gave Kevin a gift of a simple four-leaf clover, his perspective changed. In a voice over, a now-adult Kevin Arnold said, "For me, that year Christmas stopped being about tinsel and wrapping paper, and started being about memory….. And I learned from Winnie, that in a world that changes too fast, the best we can do is wish each other Merry Christmas...and good luck."

Suzy Bruisey Doll- Tabitha Stephens, "Bewitched"

This one may be a case of "What were the writers thinking?" Tabitha Stephens' bewitching mom had the power to zap up any gift her little girl wanted. (Come to think of it, so did Tabitha!) But in the 1967 "Bewitched" episode "Humbug Not To be Spoken Here," Samantha relied on Santa to bring her pint-sized witch that season's hottest gift: the Suzy Bruisey doll. Yes, unbelievably, this doll turned black and blue when it was squeezed. Can you imagine the outcry over such a doll today? We'll stick to Baby Alive!

Convenience store gifts- given by Alex P. Keaton, "Family Ties"

The year was 1983 and Alex P. Keaton had an epiphany-- via a dream a la "A Keaton Christmas Carol." After acting like a mini Scrooge all season, Alex got a huge wake-up call just in time to save Christmas. Armed with a bevy of loot from 7-Eleven (it was the only place open on Christmas morning!), he doled out these last-minute gifts to his stunned family: A cup of coffee for dad, beef jerky for sister Mallory, a TV Guide for mom and a six-pack of cough syrup for little sister Jennifer. Alex's change of heart was a Christmas miracle, indeed!

Red Ryder BB Gun- Ralphie Parker, "A Christmas Story"

"You'll shoot your eye out!" In 1983's "A Christmas Story" that's what Ralphie Parker heard whenever he told anyone that he wanted a Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot range model air rifle for Christmas. But on Christmas morning, he miraculously found one under the tree. And even though this gift may not have been from Santa, let's face it: If you can't count on the big guy, there's always dear old dad.
