Five Methods of Pigeon Control

D Swain
Pigeons are a common part of the landscape in urban environments. They can gather in large numbers and cause damage to property. If you're looking for ways to get rid of these bothersome birds, here are a few methods of pigeon control you should consider.

Traps

One of the most common methods of pigeon control is the use of live traps. You simply setup a large trap and wait for the birds to accept the bait. After you catch one, more will soon follow since they're very sociable. If you release the trapped birds, you should be aware that they have good homing ability so they'll likely return to their favorite spot.

Netting

Another popular method of pigeon control is bird netting. This netting helps prevent them from gathering on their favorite roosting sites. Once they get the message that they're not welcome, they will hopefully find another place to gather.

Spikes

Spikes are a step up from bird netting. They too work to prevent the pigeons from roosting at their favorite sites. These sharp metal spikes are designed to take away landing areas. However, the birds may top the spikes with stick and leaves, so you will need to check them occasionally.

Alarm

One of the next methods of pigeon control is the use of alarm. These alarms can be audible, visual, or both. This method of controlling pigeons is less common since it's not all that effective. The birds will eventually get used to the noise or visual alarm and not be bothered by it.

Chemicals

There are a variety of chemicals used to combat pigeons. Some are poisons designed to kill, while others simply act as repellents. You will need to lace feed corn with these chemicals to get the birds to eat it.

These are some of the different methods of pigeon control. Netting and metal spikes are used to prevent the birds from gathering at their favorite sites. You can also use live traps to capture the birds.
