Five More Ways Mel Gibson Should Apologize

E. Hignutt

He's apologized repeatedly, even to the extent of asking the Jewish community for help. He drank and then drove. And was pulled over. One officer managed to claim his 15 minutes of fame by just happening to be the cop to pull Mel Gibson over for DUI.

Gibson's been bombarded with negative publicity for days after the incident. And yet again, it's cropped up one more time with accusations that his comments and rage were a result of the reviews from the Jewish community for "The Passion of the Christ".

So I'd thought I'd help Mel get over this by suggesting five more ways he should apologize.

1. Beg. Afterall, isn't humility supposed to be a good thing? And for that matter is forgiveness divine?

2. Write a new script about a Jew being discrimination against and the suffering as the victim of hate crimes. Better yet, cast yourself as that character. Now how does that go - never judge someone until you walk a mile in their shoes? What size do you wear, Mel?

3. Become a recluse. Let's face it, no one else has ever mis-spoke, or had moments of rage. Everyone in the world always holds their tongue and keeps their thoughts and feelings to themselves.

4. Change careers. Try journalism. Then you can argue freedom of speech. Apparently as an actor you don't have the same freedom as the "writerly" careers. And if that's the case, what freedoms are the common everyday (whose presence in the workforce the country depends on) lay-workers missing?

5. Don't bother. Let it go. How long has it been now? I know they say bad publicity is better than no publicity. So maybe you should start talking about your current and future projects. Ride the wave. Don't worry about why it slipped out. Don't make excuses. Just jump the publicity bandwagon.

In the meanwhile, Mel, I hope you find these tips useful. And if you have any answers for me, let me know.
