1 & 2. Koenigsegg Agera and Agera R: $1 million to $2.1 million
Car and Driver identified the Agera as one of the most expensive cars of 2010 with a price tag of around $1 million. The 2011 specs do not show that the vehicle went down in price. Instead, this 940 hp ride with an acceleration of zero to 62 miles per hour in a breathless three seconds is even more expensive. Of course, if you really want to shell out the funds, take a look at the Agera R; it features 1,115 hp and promises the driver to reach 124 miles per hour in a mere 7.5 seconds. Torque News puts the price tag at $2.1 million.
3. Bugatti Veyron: $2.1 million plus $300,000 a year
Bugatti is proud of the 16 cylinders, a top speed of 400 km per hour and its 1,001 hp. Who wouldn't be? (Not that you could ever enjoy this kind of performance on a crowded Los Angeles highway.) The Wall Street Journal urges the millionaire with the ready cash to count the costs even further. A most expensive car to be certain, the Bugatti Veyron also costs a mint to operate and maintain. With tires having to be replaced every 2,500 miles, the cost for them alone is $10,000. Add all the other odds and ends, and annual maintenance -- barring any unforeseen problems -- is a cool $300,000. Ouch!
4. Maybach Landaulet: $1.3 million
Maybach also makes very expensive cars. These chauffeur-ready models are designed with the hired help in mind. One of the most expensive cars of 2011 is the Maybach Landaulet, which closes off the chauffeur area from the passenger seats with high-tech privacy glass. Edmunds places the MSRP at $1,380,000. Complete with Bose stereo system and a leather-trimmed shift knob, this car earns its price tag.
5. Hennessey Venom GT: $725,000 to $1 million
Hennessey reports that the Venom GT goes from zero to 60 mph in about 2.5 seconds. It makes the quarter mile -- at 162 mph -- in 9.9 seconds. Bugatti Veyron owners, eat your hearts out; while the Veyron virtually crawls along when attempting to go from zero to 200 mph in 24.2 seconds, the nimble Venom GT gets there in 15.9 seconds. What is the most expensive car that Hennessey makes? Car and Driver claims that it is the 1,200 hp model for one $1 million; if you can see your way clear to just go for the supercharged model, $725,000 gets you on the road.
