Ross Gellar and Rachel Green - Friends
Friends was the sitcom for the Gen X set during the 90's and the Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) saga was one of the things that kept us tuning in every Thursday night. We always asked, "Would they or wouldn't they?" Just when we thought they were going to make it, something would get in the way and it would keep them apart. Even after their daughter Emma was born, we still held out hope there would be a happy ending to the fairy tale. And there was. The series wrapped up with Ross and Rachel finding each other one more time, and all was right in the universe.
Dan and Roseanne Connor - Roseanne
The best sitcom about middle America, Roseanne had probably the most true to life stories ever in a sitcom. Dan (John Goodman) and Roseanne (Roseanne barr) seemed like everyone's over worked and under paid parents struggling to make ends meet, raise kids, and do it without killing one another. Some of the oneliners and banter on the show between Dan and Roseanne were priceless, and it broke our hearts to watch their marriage suffer right before our eyes at the end of the series.
Dylan McKay and Brenda Walsh - Beverly Hills 90210
It was a classic story of the 'good girl' and the 'bad boy' falling in love. Dylan(Luke Perry) and Brenda(Shannen Doherty) were the it couple at Beverly Hills High, and it brought a lot of drama with it. Dealing with the social issues of the time, the story line of Brenda and Dylan brought up controversial issues such as safe sex. Unfortunately our starcrossed teen love didn't last, but whenever you hear "90210" you always remember Brenda and Dylan.
Dr. Ross and Nurse Hathaway - ER
ER was the hottest drama of the decade and we watched the relationship between Dr. Ross(George Clooney) and Nurse Hathaway(Juliana Marguelies) go from sparring exes to almost falling in love, to jealousy, and eventually making it work and going off into the sunset. The show wasn't quite the same after they left, mostly because we couldn't see George Clooney's awesomeness anymore, but they were the iconic couple of the show.
Marge and Homer Simpson - The Simpsons
D'oh! We can't leave out our animated friends! Marge and Homer win this whole list on longevity alone. They've been around since before the 90's and are still going strong! Our favorite beer swilling, doughnut loving, bumbling Homer, and the woman that loves him, Marge. It's fun to watch these two navigate carton life in Springfield and all the adventures they're on. And you just have to love the ones that spawned Bart Simpson.
The 90's was one of the best decades for television and there are so many things to remember and be nostalgic about. Who were your favorite TV couples of the 90's?
