Five Music Videos You Must Watch Today!

Phillip Chan
Thanks to the advent of free video-sharing websites, music videos aren't just limited to your MTV station. Instead, you can enjoy a slew of them year round, online. Here are five of my favorite music videos, from artists as different as Matisyahu and Jay Chou.

Title: DoTA
Artist: Basshunter
Release date: September 2006

Thoughts: Basshunter is one of the few artists to make a song about hardcore gaming and actually become popular. DoTA (Defense of the Anceients) is a extremely popular Warcraft III mod in which players level up heroes through a series of in-game challenges. Few casual gamers will have heard of DoTA, but most serious PC gamers are familiar with the game. The DoTA video is pretty humorous, with Basshunter's mom interrupting his gaming session to ask why he is always sitting around playing DoTA. The catch beat plus the tight video really makes for a great mix.

Title: Jerusalem
Artist: Matisyahu
Release date: 2008

Thoughts: Matsiyahu is one of my favorite artists. Infusing reggae with Jewish beliefs, his beats are truly unique. I enjoy most of his music, but the song "Jerusalem" was one that caught me in the beginning. I hope you watch this moving video and enjoy it as I did.

Title: Ting Mama Hua De (Listen to your mother)
Artist: Jay Chou
Release date: September 2006

Thoughts: Jay Chou, while not exactly a household name in the United States, is one of the world's most popular artists. He's super famous in China and Taiwan, giving is his fan base a hefty base thank to the massive population over there. Many second-generation Chinese American friends of mine like his music, and this song is a good example of his melodic, sentimental hiphop beats.

Title: Writing on the Walls
Band: Underoath
Release Date: May 2007

Thoughts: Hardcore, in your face screamo with deliciously intense beats and thoughtful lyrics-that's Underoath for you! The Writing on the Walls, from their June 2006 release of the album Define the Great Line. The band has gone through a lot of changes in the last few years, but they still have retained their hardcore sound. Definitely check them out if you are a fan of hardcore music.

Title: One Day
Artist: Matisyahu

Release date: October 2009
Thoughts: Here is another amazing video from Jewish reggae singer Matisyahu. He focues on peace and tolerance in this video, a perfect fit for his beautiful song on the subject. He recently did a remix of the song with Akon, certainly not an expected mix, but still a good one.
