Five Must-Haves for the World Traveling Woman

Pauline
1. Lipstick

Find the right shade of red for your skin tone and wear it, wear it, wear it! Once you find that perfect shade, always buy it two sticks at a time. You just never know when you might lose one somewhere or, God forbid, it should melt while sitting on a sunny deck in the Mediterranean. I recommend long wearing lipstick brands that won't come off on fine china. There is nothing more embarrassing than having brunch with friends and leaving your lipstick on their Wedgwood China. A flattering shade of red on the lips will always distract from jet-lagged eyes.

2. Silk Scarf

A good silk scarf is a must have for any world traveling woman. With humidity changes, lost luggage and busy schedules, bad hair days are a fact of life. They happen. Be prepared to deal with them and press on. A good silk scarf can be worn any number of ways to hide a bad hair day while still making a stylish statement. In addition to hiding bad hair days, scarves are attractive neck accessories, belts or, in a pinch, they can cover up a coffee stain on your blouse by being worn over the shoulder and attached to your blouse with a brooch. Don't know where to keep your scarf? Do what Jackie used to do and tie it to the strap of your purse!

3. Signature Scent

Every place has its own scent but a woman who smells good is something a man will always remember. Find a quality scent and make it your signature scent. I have a friend who insists that a woman always smell like dessert. Her signature scent is a cross between marshmallows and cream and quite effective! Personally, I prefer Ralph Lauren scents. They always have a hint of far off, exotic places to them. Whatever scent you choose, be sure to always carry a small spray bottle with you. Smell good at all times and men will be falling over themselves to be near you.

4. String of Pearls

Sure, you could wear diamonds and semi-precious stones but there are just too many situations where these are pretentious. A good string of pearls can be worn just as easily with a white men's shirt at breakfast as they can with a little black dress for cocktails. Pearls make a statement about the person wearing them too. Too much bling-bling says "I'm superficial and there isn't much behind the sparkle" but a string of pearls says "I've got class". Which do you want to be?

5. Calling Card

Not everyone has a PDA you can just zap your phone number into and, let's face it, that's how phone numbers get lost. Have a set of attractive, embossed calling cards professionally printed on fine card stock and keep them in an attractive gold or silver case in your purse. Give him your card and he'll never forget your name or number. Have a hint of your signature scent on your cards and he'll also remember exactly why he wants to call you!

There you have it - five items you can keep in any sized purse that will serve you well no matter what corner of the earth you may be trekking to next!

Ditto Leilani! Flashy jewelry on men or women just doesn't make a very good impression.

Gotta go along with the pearls. They always say class without being pretentious :)
