Japan is one big island and several little ones. If you are visiting Japan you will want to be sure to visit these five islands.

Zamami-Jima if you want to visit paradise on earth you will definitely want to visit this set of unspoiled islands. Perfect for the one who loves the outdoors, Zamami-Jima is one of the most beautiful places in Japan. You won't be amazed at any manmade attractions but you will be fascinated by the lovely beaches and vegetation. If you are planning on visiting Zamami-Jima, you will want to stay a few days to enjoy the full effect of the island. You will be intrigued by this relaxing escape and astounded by the exotic atmosphere. If you are on the islands between the months of January to April, you will want to invest in a good pair of binoculars in order to spot the humpback whales migrating in herds off shore.

Sado-ga-shima is considered the exile island. Because Sado-ga-shima lies far enough away from Tokoyo, many criminals and out-of-favor intellectuals were banished to this island many centuries ago. Juntoku, an ex-emperor, was exiled to the island, also a Buddhist priest named Nichiren, and Zeami the actor who founded the No Theater were exiled. In the early 1600's, during the gold rush, several criminals were imported to the island to be banished far away from society. The life on Sado was considered very lonely and sorrowful. However, things have changed in the modern Sado. Sado has become a major tourist attraction and is actually one of the cheapest places to stay in Japan if you are a traveler on a budget. While visiting you can gain a piece of Japan's history as many of Sado is underdeveloped compared to Tokyo. If you plan on visiting, plan a 2 to 3 night stay at least, you will be able to see all that the island has to offer, however, longer stays will give you the opportunity to relax and enjoy the amazing island setting.

Rishiri-to is the place to be if you want to see an amazing peak filled volcano. Tourists come to Rishiri-to to visit the volcano and enjoy the picturesque view of its peaks. The volcano has been compared to Mt. Fuji, however, this volcano is harder to climb.

Odaiba is the island to see if you are ready for a taste of the future. This island has futuristic space age buildings, fantasy shopping malls and electric cars. Odaiba is connected to mainland Tokyo making it easy to access. The island has much to offer its visitors. You can check out its beaches, shopping centers, cafes, restaurants, and Little Hong Kong while you are there.

Nii-jima was at one time an exile island for mainland criminals. The island is rich in the history with lasting remnants of the execution grounds and the cemetery of the exiled, however, despite its darkened past, Nii-jima is now one of Japan's main tourist destinations. The beautiful turquoise waters and white sand beaches are a must see when visiting. When traveling to Nii-jima you can enjoy the gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean while relaxing.

I hope that this guide to some of Japan's most beautiful islands was of some help and guidance to you God willing.
