1) The Merlion.
This magnificent statue, which originated from a myth depicting this half-lion, half-fish creature, is widely recognized as one of Singapore's most impressive mascots. The Merlion is seen as a symbol of courage, resilience and strength to Singaporeans. A statue spanning eight meters tall can be found at the mouth of the famous Singapore River.
2) Chinatown.
This bustling neighborhood is easily one of the most popular places in Singapore. Its history spans back to the 1820s when the first Chinese trader from China established his roots on the island. The place bustles with a vibrancy of colors and possesses a unique atmosphere unlike any other. Chinatown becomes even much more crowded around the Chinese New Year season, where the sheer number of locals and tourists threaten to overwhelm you as they soak in the sights and sounds.
3) Singapore Flyer Observation Wheel.
This piece of architecture is hailed as the world's largest observation wheel. Visitors are treated to a 30 minute ride from top to bottom, which treats them to a spectacular view of the Singapore skyline up to 42 kilometers away. Because of the sheer scope of the view, visitors can get a glimpse of Singapore's neighbors, including Johor, Bintan, and Batam. It is located just to the southeast of Marina Centre.
4) Singapore Zoo.
The Singapore Zoological Gardens, colloquially known as the Zoo, is one of Asia's most popular tourist hot spots. The Zoo has won multiple awards since its opening and has received accolades for its vibrant and open landscape design, where animals live in habitats modeled very closely after their natural environments. Visitors to the zoo will be rewarded with an array of different exotic animals, ranging from white tigers, polar bears, and elephants to golden monkeys. Come dusk, the zoo's counterpart, the Night Safari, comes to life. Many tourists have fallen in love with the beauty and mystique of the Walking Trails and the comprehensive and detailed tram ride that lasts for over 45 minutes. More than a hundred species of nocturnal animals make their appearance, making the Night Safari a must-visit.
5) Sentosa Island.
This small island, which is situated to the south of the mainland, is Singapore's premier island resort getaway for locals and tourists alike. A wide variety of attractions and events draws the crowd all year round. The Orchid Garden, Volcano Land, the exquisite musical fountain, the white sandy beaches, and the magnificent golf courses are only some of the attractions that continue to wow its visitors.
