Five Natural Wonders in America You Have to See During Summer Vacation

Chris Tidwell
Summer is here and with it comes great summer vacations, but where exactly should you go? Well if you're a big history buff then I would suggest checking out some of the greatest natural and historical locations I have ever visited in my lifetime. Anywhere from California to Georgia and everywhere in between you'll find plenty of natural beauty that will shock and amaze you. The following locations are great places to spend a bit of time in while on an old fashioned family vacation.

For anyone interesting in the natural wonders of our nation I would highly recommend the Grand Canyon as a place to visit. There is so much to see in and around the canyon you'll be entertained and amazed constantly as you look across the vast canyon and see the magnificent wonders it has to offer. Guides will be more then happy to accommodate any questions you may have about the site, and you'll learn the history behind the creation of the Grand Canyon and how it has severed as a key location for people in North America for thousands of years.

Yellowstone National Park is another place where natural beauty reigns everywhere. Not only is the park a beautiful wilderness but the animals that thrive in and around are unlike anything you may have seen before. I'm from a rather large city, so seeing these forest creatures in their natural habitat up close and personal was a thrilling experience. The landscape of Yellowstone is just simply breathtaking, your eyes will always have something new to focus on because there is so much to see and do. Trained guides will be more then happy to tell you any and everything about the animals, plant life and history of the park, and they are all very good at their jobs.

California's Red Wood Forest is not unlike Yellowstone in it's natural beauty, but on a larger scale. The massive redwoods would capture the imagination of anyone who stands at their trunks. There are a variety of animals and interesting and beautiful plant life that grow here as well, but everything seems to be dwarfed, literally, by the giant and majestic Red Woods of the area.

The Indian Burial Mounds of Georgia are something that anyone interested in the lives and culture of the Native Americans would find thrilling. There are Indian Burial Mounds in many states but the ones in Georgia are the most amazing I have ever seen. When I visited our group was not only able to walk freely around the park area, but actually go inside some of the mounds and see how the den where the Indians prepped their deceased looked. The shear amount of history associated with this site is what drove my curiosity into overdrive, and there are great guides that can tell you all about the history of the park, as well as mounted plaques everywhere to give you key facts and information about a specific location.

Tennessee's Underground Lake The Lost Sea is a natural wonder that many people don't really know that much about. There is a lake underground in Tennessee inside a cave where you can take a boat ride around the crystal clear water. It's an amazing site to see this huge natural formation, the largest underground lake in America, and the second largest in the world. There are a small variety of fish that were introduced to the Lake, Rainbow Trout, but they were not actually native to the waters. The glass bottomed boats allow for extensive viewing of the water and its inhabitants as they gently glide under the boat. Aside from the actual lake there is also a vast cave to be explored in your group, you'll learn the history of the cave, and how the underground lake was found. All the while you'll be viewing massive stalagmite and stalactite formations, as well as a small waterfall found in the cave.

These locations are just a few examples of places I have been in my lifetime that have really stuck in my memory. I'll never forget the view of the Grand Canyon or the peaceful serenity of Yellowstone. I loved the enormous Red Woods and the history of the forest, paying my respects to the proud Indians, and exploring the cool depths of the Underground Lake. All of these locations have festinated thousands, and I hope you'll be inclined to check them out for yourself.

Someday I've love to get an RV for a few months, or even a year, and just take a leisurely tour around the U.S.

I don't think people realize the beauty that lies within our own country. There are so many places to see and visit. Sure, it would be nice to visit another country, but I want to see the places that make America so great.
