On the white ribbon write 'prom queen' (or have fun with it; 'Queen of the Pumpkin Patch' etc) in marker, go over lightly with glue, sprinkle with glitter and let dry. You now have a sash, simply wear across shoulders using safety pins. To complete your beauty queen, decorate and cut out a crown shape out of cardboard, punch a hole in the bottom of each side, and wear using ribbon or elastic .
A lady bug is easy and cute! For this costume, you'll need a red sweatshirt, black or red craft cotton balls (2), black or red pipe cleaners, markers, black felt, hot glue gun, black or red headband, face paint, and black pants.
On the back of your sweatshirt draw the outline of two wings, using as much of the shirt as possible, then you may draw on the black spots, or cut them out of felt and hot glue them on (while shirt is not on child please!). For extra fun, decorate spots with black glitter! To make your feelers, wrap and twist pipe cleaners around headband (this way you can take off later and save the headband), then simply hot glue cotton balls on top. Paint their nose black, and add black 'freckles' to their cheeks and your done, a comfy, quick costume!
To transform into a pop star you will need a trendy outfit (think easy - jeans, tee of a favorite singer, boots, cute scarf), 1/2 a paper towel tube, markers, glitter, hot glue, tin foil, a foam craft ball (small or medium), decorations, and a colored gift bag (old purse, old canvas bag etc).
To make a microphone (if you don't feel like making one, walmart offers inflatable ones for under $2), twist foam ball an inch or two on to tube, using a little hot glue around base to secure. Cover ball with tin foil (dots of hot glue to help secure), and decorate tube as desired. On your bag, write 'pop star' (diva, idol etc), and decorate for a complementary candy bag - and poof your famous!
Being the 'Tooth Fairy' is a more unique idea and easy to pull off, you'll need a dress, cardboard, a skewer (with point cut off), decorations (glitter, jewels etc), glue, ribbon (like the curling gift wrapping kind), white felt, ribbon or elastic, wide white ribbon, and safety pins (2).
Make a cardboard crown like you would've for a prom queen, only cut out little tooth shapes to use on your crown! Every good tooth fairy needs a wand, so using your white felt, cut two tooth shapes out, and glue them together with hot glue onto your skewer (with point off, and rough end glued between shapes). Decorate with long strands of curling ribbon, glitter etc. Finish this costume with a sash, write 'tooth fairy' on your wide white ribbon, go over lightly with glue and glitter, let dry and wear using safety pins!
When in doubt, go back to basics and transform an old bed sheet into a 'Fancy Ghost!' All you will need is an old bed sheet (or white material), a hair bow, hot glue, spray glitter and markers. Cut two large eye holes (draw on long pretty lashes), and a hole for the mouth (drawing pretty lips), finish by gluing a pretty bow on the top of the sheet/head area. For added glamor, use craft spray glitter and lightly mist the sheet (and bow)! Have fun with sparkly shoes, a fun candy bag and your done! The great thing about this costume is kids can wear warm layers underneath for a cooler night.
