Five Places to Spot Iggy Pop in Miami

Where a Rock God Might Roam

Jessica Lynn
Iggy Pop has called Miami his home for over a decade. Arguably the city's most famous resident, he says he's "one of those characters who likes to lurk where not too many people are." So where in this sunny city might this rock god lurk? Here are a few ideas:

Little Haiti
54th Street and NW 2nd Avenue

Though he lives in the more affluent Coral Gables, Iggy Pop keeps what he calls a "clubhouse" near Little Haiti. It's an unassuming cottage on a canal nestled among trees, a grownup playground where he can escape to write songs, do abdominal crunches, or whatever else his twisted heart desires. Word on the street is that he likes to shuffle around the neighborhood, checking out the botanicas and eating tacos.

Churchill's Pub
5501 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33137

Iggy says there's a lot of good little punkers in Miami, and Churchill's is where they all play. A grimy English Pub located on the outskirts of Iggy's home away from home in Little Haiti, Churchill's has been the number one spot to hear independent rock and punk bands for decades. On more than one occasion Mr. Pop has graced Churchill's with his presence, usually preferring to hang out back.

Whole Foods in Coral Gables
6701 Red Road, Coral Gables, FL 33143

The richer and ritzier part of town known as Coral Gables is where Iggy Pop shares a house with his wife. Wealthy folks love their overpriced organic groceries, so of course there's a Whole Foods nearby. Though something tells me Iggy finds Whole Foods pretty lame, I bet occasionally his wife sends him out there for last minute snacks. Check the produce section - Iggy once claimed that Miami was "a hell of a good town to eat a banana."

The Wynwood Arts District
NW 36th Street (north) to NW 20th Street (south)

The area of Miami called Midtown or Little Puerto Rico is also home to the Wynwood Art District. This small corner of the city is home to over 70 art galleries and museums, as well as private collections. Odds are Iggy Pop has browsed this part of town more than once. It's a great place to buy contemporary art by Miami's up and coming artists. If you've got money to burn, snagging a painting or two at one of the many Wynwood galleries might make a good investment, or at least look nice in your Little Haiti clubhouse.

North Beach

Sure, everyone goes to South Beach, but Iggy says that's a "drag," and he's right. North Beach is where it's at. It's the smaller, quieter, unassuming sister to South Beach. The beaches aren't littered with garbage, and you don't have to fight the drunken crowds to walk down the sidewalk. North Beach is the perfect place for a rock icon to slip away to when he wants to just sit somewhere and watch the clouds roll by.
