Five Qualities Needed To Break into the Entertainment Industry

Jendayi
The entertainment industry is a field that many aspire to work in because of the perks; being on television, chatting with and working alongside some of the most renowned celebrities all while getting generously paid. For many aspirers a career in the entertainment industry is a distant desire a mere dream, but it does not have to be. Anyone with some form of talent can make it into the industry as long as they posses a few of the traits below.

Belief (confidence) - You must have belief in your talent as well as in yourself. There will be plenty of people who will laugh at your talent and many others who will think you are hopeless. You must remember that it is not their belief in you that will help you break in to the industry but your belief in yourself. You have to believe in what you can do. Sultry crooner and five time Grammy award winner John Mayer's parents did not believe in his ability to play guitar. They thought that he could not do it but his belief in his talents overshadowed their disbelief and garnered him much success. Having confidence in yourself is a trait that you will need to maintain throughout life and well after you become well-known.

Tough skin- The entertainment industry is very fierce. It is extremely competitive. Again there will be people telling you that you are awful and will never make it and some of these people will be at an executive level. You will be heavily critiqued and will hear expressions like; "I've seen better and I've heard better," or "You are too fat," or "You are too ethnic," or even "You are too pretty." The critiquing does not stop there. You will get scrutinized by peers and by your audience. Some of them will offer you words of encouragement while others will resent you. The list goes on and on but you can not let words kill your aspirations. It goes back to having belief in your talent and yourself. You should take note that some people who critique you are actually trying to help you sharpen your talents. When you hear someone talking to you in a respectful manner telling you what you should work on you needn't take offense. Listen to their words and try to improve.

Drive and Dedication - When one door closes you must not run home with your tail between your legs. You must knock on as many other doors as you can, the loudest that you can until someone lets you in.
This is not meant literally but simply means that you should keep promoting yourself despite any rejection that you might face. If one person says no go to the next and to the next and to the next. If they all say no then go back to the first person you asked and start all over again. Shakira, the Columbian beauty and singing sensation was told that she sounded like a goat and would never make it but here she is now, five Grammy's later and renowned. No matter how dejected and defeated you might feel pick yourself up. Consistently submit you work and head to as many auditions and casting calls as you can. You must also spend a considerable amount of time crafting your talent. You can not expect for success to fall into your lap. Footwork will produce results.

Patience- Patience is a very important quality you will need to break into the entertainment industry. You can not expect overnight success nor can you expect your first piece of work to garner you the same recognition as Michael Jackson or Johnny Depp. You must remember that there are thousands of others trying to pursue the same dream as you and the ones who will make it are the ones that do not get frustrated and give up because they do not get the recognition they feel that they deserve. It took actor Denzel Washington 12 years to win an academy Award. Through this time period he remained patient and productive. Patience is an invaluable trait of life.
