Okay, so this is just my prediction, and the Heat will be fun to watch and provide an entertaining outfit of anti-heroes for people to root against and others to cheer on with reckless abandon, but there are many factors working against them this first season.
Here are the five main reasons Miami won't win a championship with LeBron, DWade, and Chris Bosh and co. in 2010.
1. Injury trouble-
Dywane Wade has a long injury history and Miami can't afford to lose him for any period because they need to get on the same page and need to work together as much as possible. Also, Mike Miller will be out for an extended period.
If Bosh or LeBron go down, the Heat are also in big trouble.
2. Lack of depth-
As the previous item says, the 2010 Miami Heat won't win the title because of their lack of depth. One injury in today's tougher NBA means big trouble. While Bosh can battle on the boards he won't have quite the help he needs on defense and foul trouble or an injury could be devastating on a short/long-term basis.
Miami has some good three-point shooters but they need more glue guys to surround the Big 3.
3. Best efforts-
The opposing teams resent the Heat and have been gunning for them since the off-season. While Boston is aging and Orlando is still a player short to win it all, both have a solid shot of beating Miami in the playoffs.
4. Karma-
Situations like this tend to not work out for "championship chasers" as LeBron and Bosh have been dubbed. See the 2004 Lakers who saw their Hall-of-Famer-stacked lineup get blasted by a younger, hungrier Detroit Pistons team in the Finals.
LeBron and Bosh shouldn't get flack for doing what they wanted to do, but it could bite in the end because that seems to be the law of the universe.
5. Go-to-guy crisis-
Will Wade, Bosh, and LeBron be able to figure out who takes the crucial shots? These things take time to sort out. Also, Head Coach Erik Spoelstra seems like a solid basketball mind but who knows if he has what it takes to manage the egos on this team? He only has a season to figure it all out which is tough for a young coach dealing with a white-hot spotlight.
While the 2010 Miami Heat are going to win big, don't expect them to win an NBA title in the first year. Keep an eye on them as they get a couple more pieces for 2011, however.
