Five Reasons to Accompany Your Senior Citizen Parent to the Doctor's Office

Bernadette
If your senior citizen parent has a doctor's appointment, you might want to accompany her or him to the doctor's office for the appointment. This article will discuss a few of the reasons why you might want to go to the doctor's appointment with your senior citizen parent.

We try to accompany my senior citizen dad to the doctor's office whenever possible. Most of the time, my dad will drive all of us to his doctor's appointment. We accompany him to keep him company in the waiting room and examination room, to ask the doctor questions, and if he is a new patient, to fill out the new patient forms.

The reasons listed below are not shown in any particular order. There are also many other reasons why we might want to accompany our senior citizen parent to the doctor's office which are not listed in this article.

Provide Transportation
If a senior citizen parent does not drive and would need to arrange transportation via a bus, taxi, etc. your driving her or him to the doctor's office saves the senior parent time and money.

Fill out New Patient Forms
If a senior citizen parent is visiting the doctor for the first time, usually many new patient forms need to be filled out. We can help by filling out these forms for our senior citizen parent.

Keep them Company in the Waiting Room
Having someone to talk with while sitting in the waiting room to be called into the examination room can be a nice way to pass the time. Even though there may be magazines to read, sometimes it is nicer to talk with someone while you wait in the waiting room.

Accompany Them Into The Examination Room
If your senior citizen parent wants you to accompany them into the examination room, ask if this is possible. Sometimes our senior parents feel more comfortable if we are able to go into the examination room with them. Many times the nurse will come into the examination room first to ask questions and get their weight, etc. Usually the patient must then wait awhile for the doctor to come into the examination room to perform the examination. During this waiting time, our parent might like the company we provide them.

Ask the Doctor Questions
During our senior citizen parent's examination, if there is something we would like to have explained better or in more detail, we can ask the doctor. We can also remind our senior parent of any question or questions that they might have for the doctor.

Hope that you were able to get some reasons why you might want to accompany your senior citizen parent to the doctor's office for her or his appointment.
