First, If you are a creative person, Mac just fits your brain. PCs tend to require all sorts of specialty knowledge and hours of trying to figure something out. After a month with a Mac, I still spend a little time looking for the answer. However, that is because the answer is so easy that I am looking for the hard way. Mac's organizational skills are much closer to being true to brain than anything I have ever experienced. Macs include a program called Spaces which allows you to have separate workstations open at the same time, and to switch easily between them. Additionally, Macs allow you to easily find what you are looking for and do whatever you want. In general, that makes me happy.
Second, Macs are faster. It's been proven that the new operating system Leopard runs faster than Windows Vista. Ironically, Macs also include a program, Bootcamp, that allows you to run Vista; and Macs run Vista FASTER than the PCs that Vista was created for. I am very Irish, and very impatient. I love that start up of both the computer itself and the applications is so fast that I don't feel like I am waiting.
Third, the way the computer works. I know that Mac has often been rejected, because there are many programs just not available for Mac. However, there are a few things to consider in that. Mac includes hundreds of dollars of programs with the computer, and I found myself needing few additional programs. Also, every program running on a Mac has been engineered for a Mac, the program works flawlessly with the computer. This is completely different from the PC world, where things just work different based on whether you have a Dell, Gateway, etc. Macs are just smooth, and that's never a bad thing.
Fourth, there are some things you don't need. Virus software for one, unless you frequently run Windows on your Mac. Which, why would you? Macs programming and defenses make it nearly impenetrable, although Apple still does offer Virus software. Also, right out of the box, you don't need to worry about hours of installing the programs you want. They are already there, including a messenger program called iChat, that allows easily for audio and video chat. Also, Mac being an Apple product, comes with iTunes. Also, with the new capabilities the MacBook Air has brought into the mix, moving to a new computer is easier than ever. Air allows for you to connect to another computer and merely transfer everything directly to your new Mac. No cables, no problems.
Fifth and final, Macs are just, well neat. Macs look like something out of a science fiction movie. The newest MacBooks incorporate all the capabilities of the iPhone. From the touchpad, you can scroll, left click, right click, advance a page forward, advance a page backwards, make things bigger, and rotate photos. I will admit that it takes a few days to master the use of the trackpad, but it is a wonderful thing once you do.
Additionally, Macs include a built in camera and microphone, so there are endless things you can create. This includes the ability to lay down your own tracks and create music, and to give commands to the computer audibly instead of with the mouse. Also, Macs use an ambient light feature that adjusts screen lighting and keyboard lighting. I more or less love my MacBook Pro, and encourage anyone buying a new computer to check out a Mac before looking anywhere else. Yes, they can be more expensive, but you get what you pay for. It has been worth every penny.
