New Year's Day has become a pretty major holiday over the years, as more and more people celebrate the ringing in of the New Year. Some people wonder why New Year's is such a big deal, but I think there are several reasons that the holiday resonates with many people. Here is a look at five of the best reasons to celebrate the New Year's arrival.

1. Put the previous year's trouble behind you- New Year's Day offers an opportunity to turn the page to something new and put the struggles and stresses of the past year behind. Over the course of the year everyone is sure to have built up quite a bit of stresses and frustration and this day often serves as a nice release of sorts.

2. New Year's resolutions- New Year's resolutions have become much more popular over the last several years. It has become commonplace for people to set specific goals to work toward in the coming year. This is very healthy and allows for a specific start and end date that will hold everyone accountable and make them work very hard.

3. The general cheer of New Year's is appealing to all- The feeling in the air when the ball drops and the clock strikes 12 am on New Year's is quite amazing. Everyone seems to light up and be joyful about the occasion.

4. College football bowl season- For many people out there New Year's Day means the ability to watch a lot of college football games. The bowl tradition continues and New Year's day brings a whole lot of sports fans quite a bit of cheer.

5. Parades- New Year's parades can be quite entertaining, whether it be on television or in your local community. This is a way for your family to join other families in celebrating a new year.
