Even if your senior citizen parent is still active, the following are some ways you can help them when they go grocery shopping. The ideas given below are not written in any particular order. There are many other reasons why you might want to go grocery shopping with your senior citizen parent that are not mentioned below.
Help to Reach Items on the Grocery Shelf
Your senior citizen parent might have difficulty reaching items that are placed too high or too low on a grocery shelf. If you accompany them to the grocery store, you can get those hard to reach items that they would like to purchase.
Reading Labels, etc.
Sometimes the fine print on labels, etc. is too tiny for some senior citizens to read. If you take your senior parent grocery shopping, you can read them whatever information they need or want to know. If a particular item is on sale, you can make certain that your senior citizen parent is purchasing the correct size by reading the labels, etc.
Matching Coupons to Items
Many times it might be difficult for seniors to match a coupon to the item or items that need to be purchased in order to redeem that coupon. You can help out your senior parent by making sure that the proper item or items have been placed in the shopping cart in order to redeem the coupon at the checkout.
Checkout
When your senior citizen parent has finished shopping, you can place the items that they want to buy on the conveyor at the checkout. You can make sure that all of the proper coupons have been handed to the cashier along with the senior's grocery store shopper discount card so that they can take advantage of any sales or store promotions. After paying for the groceries, you can now push the cart of groceries to the car. Once the bags have been put into the car, either you or the senior, if they still drive, can drive home.
Arriving Home
You can now assist your senior citizen parent by carrying the groceries inside the house. Once all of the bags are inside the house, ask if you can help in putting the items wherever they belong.
Hope that you were able to get some reasons why you might decide to take your senior citizen parent grocery shopping.
